Rebecca Burrum Matlock (1928–2019) was an American photographer. She was also the wife of Jack F. Matlock, Jr., who served as a U.S. Ambassador. She lived an interesting life, traveling the world and capturing many moments with her camera.

About Rebecca Matlock's Life
Rebecca Inez Burrum was born in Manchester, Tennessee. Her parents were Hugh H. Burrum and Leona M. Graham. She grew up in towns like Waverly and Gallatin, Tennessee. While studying at Duke University, she met and married Jack F. Matlock, Jr. in 1949.
After college, Rebecca and Jack moved to New York City. They both continued their studies at Columbia University. In 1953, they moved to Hanover, New Hampshire. Their first three children, James, Hugh, and Nell, were born there.
Life as a Diplomat's Wife
In 1956, the Matlocks joined the Foreign Service. This meant they would live and work in different countries. They were posted to places like Vienna, Oberammergau, Moscow, Accra, Zanzibar, and Dar es Salaam. Their two younger children, David and Joseph, were born during their first time living in Moscow.
The Matlocks lived in the Soviet Union four times between 1961 and 1991. During these years, Rebecca traveled to 14 of the 15 Union Republics. Their final time in Moscow began in 1987. This was when Jack Matlock became the U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union. They lived at Spaso House in Moscow until 1991, when they retired from the Foreign Service.
Life After the Foreign Service
After leaving the Foreign Service, they lived in North Stonington, Connecticut, and New York City for five years. Then, they moved to Princeton, New Jersey. In 2009, Rebecca was named an Honorary Trustee of the Friends of Davis International Center at Princeton University. Later in life, the Matlocks split their time between Princeton and her family farm in Booneville, Tennessee.
Rebecca Matlock passed away on November 9, 2019, at the age of 90. Her husband, Ambassador Matlock, shared the news on his Facebook page.
Writing About Opera
Rebecca Matlock was also involved with the Opera Company of Boston. She served on its board. She spent several years interviewing the famous opera director Sarah Caldwell. Rebecca used these interviews to help write Caldwell's biography, called Challenges: A Memoir of My Life in Opera.
