Renkum is a cool town and a municipality (which is like a local government area) in the eastern part of the Netherlands. It has a population of about 31,494 people. The area is about 46.01 km2 (17.76 sq mi) of land.
Renkum is located right next to the famous Rhine river. It's also part of a bigger area called the Stadsregio (City region) Arnhem-Nijmegen. This means it's connected to other important cities nearby.
The land around Renkum is mostly made up of beautiful forests and open areas near the river. If you explore the forests, you might even find ancient burial mounds called tumulus. These mounds are thousands of years old! Some cool things found in these mounds are kept at the Historic Museum in Arnhem.

A Look Back: Renkum's History
Renkum is a really old place, more than a thousand years old! They even celebrated its 1000th birthday back in 1970. Long ago, people used to write its name as Redinchem.
How Renkum Grew Over Time
In the 1800s, Renkum started to grow a lot. It became a busy place with many different businesses.
- There were six paper mills, which made paper.
- Three water-cornmills used water power to grind corn.
- One water-oil mill pressed oil from seeds.
- Two factories made sweet treacle and potato starch-flour.
- There was even a beer brewery and a popular local pub called de Bok.
Today, the tradition of making paper continues in Renkum. There's a company called Parenco B.V. that still makes paper products.
