Rohit Shetty (born 14 March 1974) is a well-known Indian filmmaker. He directs, produces, writes, and even performs stunts for movies. He is also a popular TV host. Rohit Shetty is famous for his exciting action-comedy films in Hindi cinema.
His big break came with the comedy film Golmaal in 2006. This movie, starring Ajay Devgn and Arshad Warsi, became a surprise hit. He continued this success with sequels like Golmaal Returns (2008) and Golmaal 3 (2010). Golmaal 3 was one of the highest-earning films of its year.
Rohit Shetty also directs action movies. His film Singham (2011), also starring Ajay Devgn, was a huge success. This movie started his famous Cop Universe series. Other popular films in this series include Singham Returns (2014), Simmba (2018), and Sooryavanshi (2021). His other successful films are All the Best: Fun Begins (2009), Bol Bachchan (2012), and Chennai Express (2013). Chennai Express, starring Shah Rukh Khan, became the highest-earning Hindi film at that time.
Besides making movies, Rohit Shetty has hosted the adventure show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi since 2014.

Early Life and Family
Rohit Shetty was born on March 14, 1974. His father, M. B. Shetty, was a famous action choreographer in movies. His mother, Ratna, was a junior artist. Rohit's father came from Mangalore, India. His mother was from Madhya Pradesh. Rohit Shetty speaks Hindi at home.
Journey in Filmmaking
Starting Out (1991–2002)
Rohit Shetty began working in films at just 17 years old. He started as an assistant director. His first job was on Ajay Devgn's first film, Phool Aur Kaante. He also worked with Ajay Devgn on other films like Suhaag and Haqeeqat. He even worked as a body double for Akshay Kumar in Suhaag.
First Films and Big Hits (2003–2009)
In 2003, Rohit Shetty directed his first movie, Zameen, which starred Ajay Devgn. It did okay at the box office. His career really took off in 2006 with Golmaal. This comedy film, also starring Ajay Devgn, became his first big hit. After that, he directed Sunday and the sequel Golmaal Returns in 2008. Both films featured Ajay Devgn. In 2009, he directed All the Best: Fun Begins.
Blockbuster Success (2010–2021)

The third Golmaal movie, Golmaal 3 (2010), was a huge success. It was his first film to earn over 100 Crore (a large amount of money in Indian cinema). Rohit Shetty continued working with Ajay Devgn. In 2011, he started his famous Cop Universe with the action film Singham. In this movie, Ajay Devgn played a police inspector fighting against corruption. In 2012, Shetty directed the comedy Bol Bachchan, which also starred Abhishek Bachchan. Both Singham and Bol Bachchan were super hits.
In 2013, Rohit Shetty directed Chennai Express, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. This film became the highest-earning Bollywood film in India at that time. It also broke many box office records.
Rohit Shetty has also been a judge on the TV show Comedy Circus. In 2014, he directed Singham Returns, a sequel to Singham. He also started hosting the stunt-based TV show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2014. He became a producer with Singham Returns, creating films under his own company, Rohit Shetty Productions.
In 2015, he directed Dilwale, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. This film did well at the box office. He continued to host Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi for many seasons.
Shetty's next film was Golmaal Again (2017), the fourth movie in the Golmaal series. It starred Ajay Devgn and Parineeti Chopra. This film became the highest-earning Hindi film of 2017. In 2018, he directed the action-comedy Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan. Ajay Devgn also made a special appearance in Simmba.
In 2021, Shetty directed another film in his Cop Universe, Sooryavanshi. It starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. This movie was released after the COVID-19 lockdown and became the highest-earning Hindi film of 2021. Rohit Shetty also made his debut on online streaming platforms with Indian Police Force for Amazon Prime Video.
Recent Projects (2022–Present)
In 2022, Rohit Shetty directed a comedy-drama called Cirkus. This film was inspired by a play by William Shakespeare. It starred Ranveer Singh in a double role. However, Cirkus was not a big success.
In 2023, Rohit Shetty produced his first Marathi film, School College Ani Life. This movie was a romantic story about growing up. Critics had mixed reviews, but they praised the actors and the beautiful visuals.
He returned to directing with Singham Again in 2024. This is the fifth movie in his Cop Universe. It stars Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham, along with many other famous actors like Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film had mixed reviews, with some praising its action scenes. Singham Again was a very expensive film to make. While it earned a lot of money globally, it was considered a moderate financial success after selling its satellite, music, and streaming rights.
