Rohit Shetty (born 14 March 1974) is a famous Indian filmmaker, stuntman, writer, producer, and TV host. He mostly works in Hindi cinema, which is also known as Bollywood. His movies are often a fun mix of action comedy and exciting masala films, which means they have a bit of everything: action, comedy, drama, and music!

Rohit Shetty became very well-known with his first Golmaal movie in 2006. This comedy film, starring Ajay Devgn and Arshad Warsi, became a surprise hit. He then made more successful movies in the series, like Golmaal Returns (2008) and Golmaal 3 (2010). Golmaal 3 was one of the highest-earning movies of that year.

After making many comedies, Shetty returned to action films with Singham in 2011. This movie also starred Ajay Devgn and became one of the biggest hits of the year. Singham then grew into a whole Cop Universe of movies, including Singham Returns (2014), Simmba (2018), and Sooryavanshi (2021). Other popular films he directed include All the Best: Fun Begins (2009), Bol Bachchan (2012), and Chennai Express (2013). Chennai Express, starring Shah Rukh Khan, became the highest-earning Hindi film at that time, even beating 3 Idiots.

Besides directing movies, Rohit Shetty has also hosted the exciting stunt-based adventure TV show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi since 2014.

Early Life

Rohit Shetty was born in Mumbai, India. His father was M. B. Shetty, a famous action director and stuntman. His mother, Ratna, was a film artist who worked in both Hindi and Kannada movies. Rohit has four brothers and sisters.

Career Journey

For Suhaag, he even worked as a body double for actor Akshay Kumar!

First Films and Big Hits (2003–2009)

Rohit Shetty directed his first movie, Zameen, in 2003. It starred Ajay Devgn. While it did okay at the box office, his big break came in 2006. He directed the first part of the funny Golmaal series, which became a huge hit. After that, he directed Sunday and the successful sequel Golmaal Returns in 2008. Both films featured Ajay Devgn. In 2009, he directed All the Best: Fun Begins.

The third Golmaal movie, Golmaal 3, came out in 2010 and was a massive success. It was his first film to earn over 100 Crore (a very large amount of money in Indian cinema).

Rohit Shetty continued working with Ajay Devgn and started his famous Cop Universe in 2011 with the action film Singham. In this movie, Ajay Devgn played a brave police inspector fighting against bad guys. Singham was a super hit. In 2012, Shetty directed the comedy Bol Bachchan, which also starred Abhishek Bachchan. This film was also a big success and earned over 100 Crore.

In 2013, Shetty directed Chennai Express, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. This movie broke many records and became the highest-earning Bollywood film in India at the time. It also did very well in other countries. Chennai Express was the fastest film to reach 100 Crore and 200 Crore in India.

Rohit Shetty has also been a judge on the TV show Comedy Circus.

In 2014, he directed Singham Returns, a sequel to Singham, again with Ajay Devgn. That same year, he started hosting the fifth season of the stunt game show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, taking over from Akshay Kumar. He also became a producer with Singham Returns, making films under his own company, Rohit Shetty Productions.

In 2015, he directed Dilwale, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. This film did well at the box office. He continued to host Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi for many more seasons.

Shetty's next film was Golmaal Again in 2017, the fourth movie in the Golmaal series. It starred Ajay Devgn and Parineeti Chopra. This film became the highest-earning Hindi film of 2017 and a huge hit during the Diwali festival. In 2018, he directed the action-comedy Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan. Ajay Devgn also made a special appearance as Bajirao Singham.

In 2021, Shetty directed another film in his Cop Universe, called Sooryavanshi. It starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. This movie was one of the first big Hindi films to be released after the COVID-19 lockdown and became the highest-earning Hindi film of that year.
