Abhishek Bachchan (born 5 February 1976) is a well-known Indian actor and film producer. He is famous for his work in Hindi films, often called Bollywood movies. Abhishek is part of the famous Bachchan family. His parents are the legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. From 2012 to 2016, he was listed among India's top 100 celebrities based on his earnings and popularity.

Abhishek Bachchan started his acting journey with the film Refugee in 2000. His career really took off in 2004 with the action film Dhoom. He earned praise for his acting in dramas like Yuva (2004), Sarkar (2005), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). For these roles, he won three Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a row.

Some of his biggest hits where he played the main role include the comedy Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and the drama Guru (2007). He also starred in successful action films like Dus (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), and Dhoom 3 (2013). Abhishek Bachchan was born on 5 February 1976 in Mumbai. His parents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, are both famous actors in Hindi cinema. He has an older sister named Shweta Bachchan.

His grandfather, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a well-known poet and professor. His grandmother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist. The family's original last name was Srivastava. However, his grandfather used "Bachchan" as a pen name, and his father, Amitabh, later adopted it as his surname when he became an actor.

Abhishek's family has roots in different parts of India. On his father's side, they are from the Awadhi and Punjabi regions. On his mother's side, they are Bengali. His maternal grandfather, Taroon Kumar Bhaduri, was a famous author and poet. His book, Obhishopto Chambol, inspired many Hindi films about outlaws.

Abhishek went to school in different cities. He attended Jamnabai Narsee School and Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai. He also studied at Modern School in New Delhi and Aiglon College in Switzerland. He later went to Boston University but decided to pursue acting in Bollywood instead of finishing his degree. When he was 9 years old, he was diagnosed with dyslexia, a learning difference that affects reading.

His Acting Journey

Starting His Career: 2000–2003

In 2000, Abhishek Bachchan made his first movie appearance in J. P. Dutta's war drama Refugee. He starred alongside Kareena Kapoor, who was also making her debut. The film did okay at the box office, and both actors received good reviews. A film critic from Bollywood Hungama said Abhishek "has all it takes to emerge a competent actor."

Becoming Famous: 2004–2009

Abhishek's career started to change in 2004. His film Run wasn't a hit. However, he then starred in Mani Ratnam's political drama Yuva (2004). Even though Yuva didn't earn much, Abhishek won his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role. He also had a small part in Hum Tum and starred in Phir Milenge.

Abhishek became more recognized after playing a tough police officer in the action thriller Dhoom (2004). This film was a big hit. His next film, Naach (2004), was not well-received.

In 2005, Abhishek starred in the crime comedy Bunty Aur Babli with Rani Mukerji. They played two con artists who fall in love. This film was one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2005. It also earned him his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. This movie was special because it was his first time working professionally with his father, Amitabh Bachchan, who played a police officer.

Next, Abhishek appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's political drama Sarkar. He played the honest son of a powerful politician, played by his father. His performance earned him great reviews and his second Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. His films Dus (2005) and Bluffmaster! (2005) were also moderately successful.

In 2006, Abhishek starred in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. This film was very popular, especially overseas, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film in international markets at that time. In 2012, Abhishek starred in the heist thriller Players, which was a remake of The Italian Job. Despite high expectations, it didn't do well. However, his role in Rohit Shetty's comedy Bol Bachchan was a success. Critics had mixed reviews, but one called him a "good part of the film." He won several awards for this role, including Best Comedian.

In 2013, Abhishek returned for Dhoom 3, reprising his role from the earlier Dhoom films. This time, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif joined the cast. The film received mixed reviews, but it became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time until 2014.

Abhishek then appeared in Farah Khan's dance comedy Happy New Year. This film had a large cast, including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Sonu Sood. In October 2002, Abhishek Bachchan and actress Karisma Kapoor announced their engagement. However, they called it off in January 2003.

Abhishek later fell in love with Aishwarya Rai while they were filming Dhoom 2. They had worked together before in Dhai Akshar Prem Ke and Kuch Naa Kaho. Abhishek and Aishwarya announced their engagement on 14 January 2007. They got married on 20 April 2007, in a private ceremony at the Bachchan family home in Mumbai. Their wedding was widely covered by the media.

In September 2009, the couple appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. They are often called a "supercouple" in the Indian media. Aishwarya gave birth to their daughter, Aaradhya, on 16 November 2011. Their daughter became very popular and was nicknamed "Beti B" by fans and the media. In 2023, Abhishek and his daughter filed a court case against some YouTube channels that published false news about her. The court ruled in their favor, ordering the videos to be removed.

Awards and Nominations

Abhishek Bachchan has won many awards for his acting. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor three times in a row for his roles in Yuva (2004), Sarkar (2005), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). He is only the second actor to achieve this, after Dilip Kumar.
