Roscoe's History

Roscoe was first called Vista. This name honored an official of the Texas and Pacific Railway. The railway passed through the town. In 1890, the post office opened, and the town changed its name to Roscoe.

The town officially became a city in 1907. Shipping cattle by train was very important for Roscoe's early economy. In 1909, the Roscoe, Snyder, and Pacific Railway connected Roscoe to the Santa Fe Railway in nearby Fluvanna.
