Bang Hyun-sung (Hangul: 방현성; Hanja: 方縣成), known to many as Ryan Bang, is a popular TV host, comedian, actor, and singer from South Korea. He was born on June 16, 1991. Ryan is very well-known in the Philippines, where he works and lives.

He is one of the few Korean stars who became famous on Philippine TV. Other Korean personalities who also appeared on Philippine television include Sandara Park and Grace Lee. Ryan became famous after joining the reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010. He finished as the first runner-up in that show.

After Pinoy Big Brother, Ryan hosted his first TV show called 3ow Powhz!. It aired on Studio 23 from 2010 to 2011. He also became a regular host on the popular ABS-CBN variety show It's Showtime in 2012. More recently, he has been the main host of the reality show Dream Maker.

Early Life and Family

Where Ryan Grew Up

Ryan Bang was born in Seoul, South Korea, on June 16, 1991. He is the only child of Bang Du-cheol and Shin Myeong-ja. His father used to be a government official, and his mother was a housewife.

In 2005, his parents separated. Today, Ryan's mother works as a real estate broker. His father works as a taxi driver.

Ryan's TV Journey

Starting with Pinoy Big Brother

In May 2010, Ryan Bang joined the Pinoy Big Brother house. He was one of eleven housemates. After 56 days, he received enough votes to reach the "Big Night." He ended up as the Second Big Placer, getting 18.70% of the votes.

Becoming a TV Host

In August 2010, Ryan started appearing as a guest judge on the noontime variety show Showtime. This show is now known as It's Showtime. He became a regular host and stayed on the show for a long time.

He also hosted his own show, 3ow Powhz, on Studio 23. Ryan appeared in the comedy show Banana Split. He also made guest appearances on Kim Atienza's program Matanglawin. On January 1, 2011, Ryan was named one of the "breakthrough artists" of 2010. On May 25, 2011, he released his music album. It was titled I Lilly Lilly Like It: Ryan Bang Party Party Hits!.

In February 2024, Ryan Bang opened his own Korean cuisine restaurant called Paldo. He also co-owns a Mexican-themed coffeehouse. This coffeehouse is called Siesta Horchata Café. It opened on March 16, 2024, in Quezon City. It is the first coffeehouse focused on horchata. Ryan owns it with Paola Huyong.

Understanding His Taxes

In January 2013, there was a misunderstanding about Ryan's taxes. The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed a complaint. They said Ryan did not pay his taxes for 2010 and 2011. He was asked to pay about ₱1.82 million, which included extra charges.

In February 2013, Ryan said he wanted to apologize to the BIR. He explained that he was still a high school student in 2010. He was not aware of his responsibility to pay taxes to the Philippine government at that time.
