What Does It Look Like?

The Saffron-crested Tyrant-Manakin is a small bird, only about 10 to 11 centimeters (4 to 4.3 inches) long. It has a short tail and a light yellowish chest. It can look a lot like a flycatcher bird.

The most amazing part of this bird is its bright saffron-yellow crest. This crest stands up on its head and matches its other feathers. The bird also has black wings and a black tail with yellow marks. Its eyes are dark, and its beak is short and strong.

Where Does It Live?

The Saffron-crested Tyrant-Manakin lives in the Guianas, southern Venezuela, and the northwestern Amazon Basin. Its favorite places to live are tropical forests and areas with many shrubs.

You can find them along the coast of the Guianas and into northeastern Brazil, especially in the state of Amapá. They also live west from Guyana into southeast Venezuela and eastern Colombia. From there, they spread south along the Rio Negro (Amazon) river to the Amazon River. They also go up the Amazon River to the Purus River and the Madeira River.

In the Amazon Basin of Brazil, they are found in the states of Amapá, Amazonas, and southern Roraima. You can also find populations in northern Peru near the beginnings of rivers, like the Ucayali River. These birds really love the warm, wet tropical rainforests.

How Does It Behave?

Saffron-crested Tyrant-Manakins often show interesting social behaviors. They live in groups or with their mates. They talk to each other using different calls and displays. This helps them stay connected and protect their areas.

These birds mainly eat insects, small fruits, and berries. They are very good at finding their food in the forest. They are also known for being quick when catching insects.
