Sandy Bay Mountain is a cool mountain that sits right on the border between two countries: Canada and the United States. It's also known by a few other names! In Quebec, Canada, its official name is Mont Sandy Stream. But people in the area sometimes call it Mont Bélanger.

This mountain stands tall at about 950 meters (or 3,117 feet) above the sea. Part of it is in Maine, USA, and the other part is in Saint-Ludger, Quebec, Canada. It's a great example of how nature crosses borders!

Where is Sandy Bay Mountain?

Sandy Bay Mountain is located in a beautiful natural area. To its southeast, you'll find another mountain called Slidedown Mountain. Imagine them standing side-by-side!

Water Flowing from the Mountain

Sandy Bay Mountain is special because water from its slopes flows into three different major river systems. These areas are called watersheds. A watershed is like a big bowl where all the rain and melted snow eventually drain into one main river or lake.

  • North Side: Water from the north side of Sandy Bay Mountain flows into the South Branch of the Penobscot River. This river then joins the main Penobscot River and eventually reaches the Penobscot Bay in Maine.
  • East Side: On the east side, water drains into the West Branch of Sandy Stream. This stream then flows into the Moose River, which connects to the Kennebec River. Finally, this water makes its way to the Gulf of Maine, part of the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Southwest Side: Water from the southwest side of the mountain flows into a stream called Ruisseau Noir. This stream joins the Rivière du Loup, then the Chaudière River, and finally the mighty Saint Lawrence River. The Saint Lawrence River is a huge river in Canada that empties into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, which is also part of the Atlantic Ocean.

So, water from one mountain can travel thousands of miles to reach the ocean through different paths!
