Sejad Salihović was born on October 8, 1984. He is a football coach and a former player from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He currently works as an assistant coach for 1899 Hoffenheim II.
Sejad spent most of his playing career with 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany's top football league, the Bundesliga. He also played for other teams like Hertha BSC, Beijing Renhe, St. Gallen, and Hamburger SV.
From 2007 to 2015, Salihović played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He played 47 games and scored 4 goals. He was part of the team that went to their first major tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Playing Career
Early Days
Sejad Salihović started playing football in youth teams. He played for Minerva Berlin and Hertha Zehlendorf. In 2000, he joined Hertha BSC. He played for their younger teams before moving to the reserve team in 2003.
Hertha BSC
In 2004, Salihović joined the main Hertha BSC team. He played his first professional game in the Bundesliga on September 26, 2004. This game was against Hamburger SV, and his team lost 1–2.
1899 Hoffenheim
In 2006, Salihović moved to 1899 Hoffenheim. In his first year, the team was in the Regionalliga Süd, which was the third-highest league in Germany. At the end of that season, his team moved up to the 2. Bundesliga.
Sejad was seen as the best player in the 2. Bundesliga during the 2007–08 season. This was a great year for 1899 Hoffenheim, as they were promoted again. This time, they moved up to the Bundesliga, Germany's top league.
In their first Bundesliga season, Salihović helped 1899 Hoffenheim do very well. They were at the top of the league when winter came. However, they finished the season in seventh place.
At the end of the 2012–13 season, Salihović scored two important goals from penalty kicks. These goals helped his team avoid being sent down to a lower league.
In his last years at 1899 Hoffenheim, Sejad had some injuries. These injuries meant he could not play as much. He left the club in 2015 after nine years. He had played more games for 1899 Hoffenheim than any other player in the club's history.
Beijing Renhe
On June 7, 2015, 1899 Hoffenheim announced that Salihović would leave. He joined Beijing Renhe, a team in the Chinese Super League.
St. Gallen
In February 2017, Salihović signed with St. Gallen. This team plays in the Swiss Super League. He stayed with them until the end of that season. His contract was not extended, so he left the club in June 2017.
Hamburger SV
On September 13, 2017, Salihović signed a one-year contract with Hamburger SV. This meant he returned to the Bundesliga after more than two years. He played his first game on September 15, which was a 0–2 loss to Hannover 96. Salihović scored his first goal against Mainz 05. His team lost that game 2–3. At the end of the season, his contract was not renewed, and he left the club.
Retirement and Return
On April 4, 2019, it was announced that Salihović had decided to end his playing career. He had offers from other clubs but chose to stop playing. However, in 2021, he returned to play one game for 1899 Hoffenheim II.
International Career
Sejad Salihović was a regular player for the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team. In October 2006, he scored two goals for the under-21 team. Both goals were powerful shots from far away.
Later, Salihović joined the senior national team. He became an important player. He played his first game for the senior team on October 13, 2007. He scored his first goal against Oman in a friendly game on June 9, 2009.
Even though he usually played in midfield, he sometimes played as a left back. He was suspended for four games because of unsporting behavior in a game against Portugal. This meant he missed some important qualification games. He returned to play in a friendly match against Slovakia.
In June 2014, he was chosen to be in Bosnia and Herzegovina's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This was the first time the country had qualified for such a big competition. He played in all three games for Bosnia at the World Cup. These included losses to Argentina and Nigeria, and a win against Iran.
After Bosnia did not qualify for the 2016 UEFA Euro, Salihović stopped playing for the national team. He did not make a public announcement about it.
Personal Life
Sejad Salihović and his family moved to Berlin in 1992. This was just before the Bosnian War began. In June 2009, after 17 years, Sejad visited his hometown of Zvornik. His parents were renovating their home there. Sejad enjoys reading, playing football, and spending time with his family.
On December 15, 2014, Salihović married his girlfriend. In April 2015, they had a baby boy. The couple later divorced in 2019.
Playing Style
Salihović was known for his strong left-footed shot. He was also very good at taking free-kicks throughout his career.
