Sergi Roberto Carnicer (born on February 7, 1992) is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays for the Serie A club Como. Sergi Roberto is known for being a very flexible player. He can play as a central midfielder, a defensive midfielder, a full-back, or even a winger.
He spent most of his football career playing for Barcelona. He joined their first team when he was 18 years old. With Barcelona, he won many important awards. These include seven La Liga championships and two Champions League titles.
Sergi Roberto also played for the Spanish national team. He made his first appearance for Spain in 2016.

Sergi Roberto's Club Career
Starting at Barcelona's Youth Academy
Sergi Roberto was born in Reus, a city in Catalonia, Spain. He started playing football when he was 8 years old for a local team called UE Barri Santes Creus. When he was 14, he joined Barcelona's famous youth academy, called La Masia. Before that, he played for Gimnàstic de Tarragona.
In the 2009–10 season, when he was only 17, Sergi Roberto started playing for Barcelona's reserve team, Barcelona B. He played in 29 games. His help allowed the team to return to the Segunda División, which is the second-highest league in Spain.
Making His Debut for Barcelona's First Team
Sergi Roberto made his first appearance for Barcelona's main team on November 10, 2010. He played in the second half of a Copa del Rey match against Ceuta. Barcelona won that game 5–1.
On April 27, 2011, he played his first UEFA Champions League game. He came on as a substitute in the last minute of a match against Real Madrid. Barcelona won that game 2–0.
His first game in La Liga, Spain's top league, was on May 21, 2011. He played the whole game in a 3–1 win against Málaga. On December 6, 2011, he scored his first goal for the main team. This happened in a Champions League game against BATE Borisov, which Barcelona won 4–0.
Key Moments and Versatility at Barcelona
Sergi Roberto scored his second goal for Barcelona's first team on January 12, 2012. It was in a Copa del Rey match against Osasuna. Barcelona won 2–1. Later, on December 16, 2014, he scored another goal in the same competition. This time, Barcelona won 8–1 against Huesca.
In the 2015–16 season, Sergi Roberto became very important because he could play in many different positions. His coach, Luis Enrique, started using him as a right-back. He even played on the left side when Jordi Alba was injured. He showed he could play in as many as seven different positions on the field.
On August 20, 2016, he started as a right-back and helped set up two goals in a 6–2 win against Betis. On September 24, he again provided two important passes in a 5–0 win against Sporting de Gijón.
One of his most famous moments happened on March 8, 2017. He scored the winning goal in the very last minute of a Champions League game. Barcelona beat Paris Saint-Germain 6–1. This win was amazing because Barcelona was the first team to come back from a four-goal disadvantage in the Champions League.
On February 22, 2018, Sergi Roberto signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2022. He was the main right-back during the 2017–18 season. Barcelona won the Spanish league title that year.
Later in his career, Sergi Roberto faced some injuries. In late 2021, he had a quadriceps injury and needed surgery. On March 3, 2023, he extended his contract until 2024. Despite his injuries, he scored four goals in the 2022–23 season, which was his best scoring year. Barcelona won the league title again.
On June 30, 2024, Sergi Roberto left Barcelona after playing 373 games for the club. He became a free agent, meaning he could join any team he wanted.
Moving to Como
On August 23, 2024, Sergi Roberto signed a two-year contract with Serie A club Como. Como had just been promoted to Serie A. His former Barcelona teammate, Cesc Fàbregas, is the coach at Como.
On September 24, he played a key role in Como's 3–2 win against Atalanta. He used a backheel pass to set up the first goal for Gabriel Strefezza.
Sergi Roberto's International Career
In October 2009, Sergi Roberto was called to play for the Spain under-17 team. This was for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. On November 5, he scored three goals in a game against Burkina Faso. Spain finished third in that tournament.
He made his debut for the under-21 team on September 5, 2011. This was in a game against Georgia.
Sergi Roberto was first called up to the senior national team in March 2016. This was for friendly games against Romania and Italy. His first game for the senior team was on March 27, 2016, in a 0–0 draw against Romania.
He was also chosen by coach Luis Enrique to play in the 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals. He played in the semi-final match where Spain won 2–1 against Italy. Spain finished as runners-up in that competition.

In 2014, Sergi Roberto began dating Israeli model Coral Simanovich. They got engaged in September 2017 and were married in Tel Aviv on May 30, 2018. Their first child, a daughter named Kaia, was born in 2019.
