Sergi Roberto Carnicer (born on February 7, 1992) is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays for the Serie A club Como. Sergi Roberto is known for being very versatile. He can play as a central midfielder, a defensive midfielder, a full-back, or even a winger.
He spent most of his career playing for Barcelona. He joined their main team when he was just 18 years old. With Barcelona, he won many important titles. These include seven La Liga championships and two Champions League trophies.
Sergi Roberto also played for the Spanish national team. He made his first appearance for Spain in 2016.

Sergi Roberto's Football Journey
Starting Out in Barcelona's Youth Team

Sergi Roberto was born in Reus, a city in Catalonia, Spain. He started playing football at age 8 with a local team called UE Barri Santes Creus. When he was 14, he joined Barcelona's famous youth academy. Before that, he played for a nearby team called Gimnàstic de Tarragona.
In the 2009–10 season, Sergi Roberto was only 17. He began playing for Barça's reserve team, Barcelona B. He played in 29 games, helping the team return to the Segunda División. This was a big step up for the team after 11 years.
Making His Debut with the Main Barcelona Team
Sergi Roberto played his first game for Barcelona's main team on November 10, 2010. He came on in the second half of a Copa del Rey match against Ceuta. Barcelona won that game 5–1 at home.
On April 27, 2011, he made his first appearance in the UEFA Champions League. He came on as a substitute in the final minute of a game against Real Madrid. Barcelona won that match 2–0.
His first game in La Liga, Spain's top league, was on May 21, 2011. He played the entire game in a 3–1 win against Málaga. On December 6, 2011, he started a Champions League group stage match against BATE Borisov. He scored his first goal for the main team in that game, helping Barcelona win 4–0.
Sergi Roberto scored his second goal for Barcelona's first team on January 12, 2012. It was in a Copa del Rey match against Osasuna. Barcelona came back to win 2–1. Later, on December 16, 2014, he scored again in the same competition. This time, Barcelona won 8–1 against Huesca at their home stadium, the Camp Nou.
Becoming a Versatile Player
During the 2015–16 season, Sergi Roberto became a very important player. The manager, Luis Enrique, started using him in different positions. He played as a right-back in many games. He even played on the left side when Jordi Alba was injured. He showed he could play in as many as seven different positions on the field.
On August 20, 2016, Sergi Roberto started as a right-back. He helped Barcelona score two goals in a 6–2 win against Betis. On September 24, he again provided two key passes in a 5–0 win against Sporting de Gijón.
One of his most famous moments happened on March 8, 2017. He scored the winning goal in the 95th minute against Paris Saint-Germain. This incredible goal helped Barcelona win 6–1. It was a historic comeback in the Champions League, as Barcelona became the first team to win after being four goals behind.
On February 22, 2018, he signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2022. He was the main right-back during the 2017–18 season. Barcelona won the national championship that year.
Sergi Roberto had some injuries in late 2021 and early 2022. Despite these challenges, he scored four goals in the 2022–23 season. This was his best goal-scoring season in the league, and Barcelona won the championship.
On June 30, 2024, Sergi Roberto left Barcelona. He had played 373 games for the club.
Joining Como in Italy
On August 23, 2024, Sergi Roberto signed a two-year contract with Serie A club Como. Como had just been promoted to Serie A. His former Barcelona teammate, Cesc Fàbregas, is the coach at Como.
On September 24, he played in a game where Como won 3–2 against Atalanta. He helped set up the first goal with a clever backheel pass.
Playing for His Country
Youth National Teams
In October 2009, Sergi Roberto was called to play for the Spain under-17 team. This was for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. On November 5, he scored three goals, which is called a hat-trick, against Burkina Faso. Spain finished third in that tournament.
He made his debut for the under-21 team on September 5, 2011. He played in a 2–0 win against Georgia.
Playing for the Senior Spain Team
Sergi Roberto was first called up to the senior squad in March 2016. This was for friendly games against Romania and Italy. He made his debut on March 27, starting in a 0–0 draw against Romania.
He was part of the Spain team that played in the 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals. He played in the semi-final match where Spain won 2–1 against Italy. Spain finished as runners-up in that competition.

In 2014, Sergi Roberto started dating Israeli model Coral Simanovich. They got engaged in September 2017 and married in Tel Aviv on May 30, 2018. Their first child, a daughter named Kaia, was born in 2019.
