Shelton Eugene Quarles (born September 11, 1971) is an important person in American football. He used to play as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Now, he works as an executive for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is currently their Director of Football Operations.

Shelton Quarles played college football at Vanderbilt. He then joined the Miami Dolphins in 1994. He also played for the BC Lions in Canada. Most famously, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1997 to 2006.

Shelton Quarles was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up loving football. He went to Whites Creek High School. There, he was a star player on the football team.

Growing Up and High School Football

In high school, Shelton was a "letterman" in football. This means he earned a special award for playing well. As a senior, he was named first-team All-State. This means he was one of the best players in the entire state.

During his high school career, he made 30 sacks. He also had 505 tackles and five interceptions. These are impressive numbers for a high school player. Shelton was also a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Whites Creek High School in 1990.

Playing in the NFL and CFL

After high school, Shelton Quarles played college football at Vanderbilt University. He was a very good player there. In his senior year, he was named second-team All-Southeastern Conference.

In 1994, he tried to join the Miami Dolphins. He was an undrafted free agent. This means no team picked him in the NFL Draft. He signed with the Dolphins but was released before the season started.

After that, Quarles played for two seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the BC Lions in 1995 and 1996. The CFL is a professional football league in Canada.

Joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In 1997, Shelton Quarles signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is where he became a well-known NFL player. He played for the Buccaneers for ten seasons.

Shelton Quarles is married to his wife, Damaris. They have three children together. Their daughter is named Gabriela Nicole. Their sons are Shelton Eugene Jr. and Carlos Antonio. The family lives in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Quarles also started a foundation called the IMPACT Foundation. This foundation helps children and young people who are at risk. It provides programs and events to help them build self-esteem. It also helps them set and reach their life goals.
