Shilpa Shetty Kundra (born Ashwini Shetty on 8 June 1975) is a famous Indian actress. She works mainly in Hindi films and on television. Shilpa first appeared on screen in the thriller Baazigar (1993). This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She had some success in the 1990s with action films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) and Jaanwar (1999).

A big change in Shilpa's career came with the romantic drama Dhadkan (2000). After this, she acted in Indian (2001) and Rishtey (2002). For Rishtey, she was nominated again for Best Supporting Actress. Shilpa was highly praised for playing a woman with AIDS in the drama Phir Milenge (2004). This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She then appeared in the action thriller Dus (2005) and the drama Life in a... Metro (2007). She also starred in the sports drama Apne (2007). She became well-known for the song "Shut Up & Bounce" from Dostana (2008). After this, she took a break from acting.

In February 2006, Shilpa supported a BBC World Service Trust TV show. This show aimed to help with the problem of HIV-AIDS in India. She took part to show support for people with HIV-AIDS. Shilpa said this issue was very important to her. This is because she had played an HIV-positive person in her 2004 film Phir Milenge. She said: "This film will bring about social awareness about AIDS in our country. It is high time we talked about this in our society."

In March 2006, Shilpa joined PETA. This was for an advertising campaign against using wild animals in circuses. She posed for photos in a tiger costume. She explained that being in a cage for the photoshoot was uncomfortable. But she said her discomfort was small compared to the pain animals suffer. Shilpa Shetty started dating Akshay Kumar while filming Insaaf (1997). She spoke openly about their relationship. The Indian media thought they were engaged. They reported that Kumar wanted Shilpa to stop acting and get married. However, Shilpa said she had no plans to marry. The couple broke up in 2000 while filming Dhadkan.

In February 2009, Shilpa got engaged to Raj Kundra. They were co-owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team Rajasthan Royals. They got married on 22 November 2009. Shilpa gave birth to a son on 21 May 2012. The couple had a second child, a girl, on 15 February 2020 through surrogacy.
