Shilpa Shetty Kundra (born Ashwini Shetty, 8 June 1975) is a famous Indian actress. She mostly works in Hindi films. Shilpa started her acting journey in 1993 with the thriller Baazigar. This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
She had some successful films in the 1990s, like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994). A big moment in her career was the romantic drama Dhadkan (2000). She also received praise for playing a woman with AIDS in Phir Milenge (2004). This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
Shilpa also became well-known in reality television. In 2007, she won the UK reality show Celebrity Big Brother. She later hosted the Indian version, Bigg Boss, in 2008. She has been a judge on many dance and music shows, including Super Dancer (2016–2021). Shilpa returned to acting in 2021 with the comedy film Hungama 2. Early Life and First Steps
Shilpa Shetty was born in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Her family speaks the Tulu language. Her parents, Sunanda and Surendra Shetty, made special water caps for medicines. Her younger sister, Shamita Shetty, is also an actress.
Shilpa went to St. Anthony's Girls' High School in Chembur. She also studied at Podar College in Matunga. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She was also the captain of her school's volleyball team.
In 1991, after finishing her tenth-grade exams, Shilpa started modeling. She appeared in a Limca TV commercial and many other ads. Soon, she started getting offers for film roles. She continued modeling until she became a full-time actress.

Early Films and Growing Fame (1993–1999)
Shilpa Shetty signed her first film in September 1992. It was a romantic drama called Gaata Rahe Mera Dil. However, this film was never released. So, her first movie to hit the screens was Baazigar in 1993. In this thriller, she starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Shilpa played Seema Chopra, a girl who is murdered by her boyfriend. Baazigar was a big hit at the box office. Shilpa's acting was praised, and she was nominated for two Filmfare Awards.
In 1994, Shilpa had three films released. Her first leading role was in the action drama Aag. She played an undercover policewoman. Next, she starred in the action comedy Main Khiladi Tu Anari. Off-Screen Work and Interests
In February 2006, Shilpa Shetty supported a BBC World Service Trust TV show. This show aimed to help with the problem of HIV-AIDS in India. She participated to show support for people with HIV-AIDS. This issue was important to her because she played an HIV-positive person in her 2004 film Phir Milenge. She said the film aimed to raise awareness about AIDS.
In March 2006, Shilpa joined PETA. She became part of a campaign against using wild animals in circuses. Shilpa is a long-time PETA supporter. She posed in a tiger costume to help the campaign. Shilpa Shetty started dating Akshay Kumar while filming Insaaf (1997). She spoke openly about their relationship. However, they broke up in 2000 while filming Dhadkan.
In February 2009, Shilpa got engaged to Raj Kundra. They were co-owners of the Rajasthan Royals cricket team. They got married on 22 November 2009. Shilpa gave birth to their son on 21 May 2012. The couple had a second child, a girl, on 15 February 2020 through surrogacy.
Impact and Recognition
Shilpa Shetty became one of the most beautiful and hardworking leading actresses of the 1990s. She has appeared in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list several times. In 2007, Rediff.com named Shilpa the "Most Powerful Actress." She is also known for her amazing dancing skills.
In February 2007, Shilpa attended a reception at the British House of Commons. She met with then Prime Minister Tony Blair. She was also invited to meet Queen Elizabeth II in London in March 2007.
