Shilpa Shetty Kundra (born Ashwini Shetty on 8 June 1975) is a famous Indian actress. She works mainly in Hindi films and on television. Shilpa first appeared on screen in the thriller Baazigar (1993). This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She had some success in the 1990s with action films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) and Jaanwar (1999).
A big change in Shilpa's career came with the romantic drama Dhadkan (2000). After this, she acted in Indian (2001) and Rishtey (2002). For Rishtey, she was nominated again for Best Supporting Actress. Shilpa was highly praised for playing a woman with AIDS in the drama Phir Milenge (2004). This role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She then appeared in the action thriller Dus (2005) and the drama Life in a... Metro (2007). She also starred in the sports drama Apne (2007). She became well-known for the song "Shut Up & Bounce" from Dostana (2008). After this, she took a break from acting.

Shilpa Shetty's Early Life
Shilpa Shetty was born in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Her family speaks the Tulu language and belongs to the Bunt community. Her mother, Sunanda, and her late father, Surendra Shetty, made special caps for medicine bottles. Shilpa has an elder sister named Shamita Shetty. In 2016, Shilpa shared that she has Bengali family roots. She mentioned this during a visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh. She also said she planned to visit her family's old home in Sylhet and act in a Bangladeshi film.
Shilpa went to St. Anthony's Girls High School in Chembur. She also studied at Podar College in Matunga. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She was also the captain of her school's volleyball team.

This was a thriller directed by Abbas-Mustan. She starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. In the film, Shilpa played Seema Chopra, a girl who is murdered. Baazigar was a big hit at the box office. It was the fourth-highest-grossing film of 1993. Both the movie and Shilpa's acting were praised. She was nominated for Best Female Debut and Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Awards.
In 1994, Shilpa had three films released. Her first main role was in the action drama Aag. She played Bijli, a village girl who was secretly a policewoman. Aag had moderate success. Shilpa Shetty started dating Akshay Kumar while filming Insaaf (1997). She spoke openly about their relationship. The Indian media thought they were engaged. They reported that Kumar wanted Shilpa to stop acting and get married. However, Shilpa said she had no plans to marry. The couple broke up in 2000 while filming Dhadkan.
In February 2009, Shilpa got engaged to Raj Kundra. They were co-owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team Rajasthan Royals. They got married on 22 November 2009. Shilpa gave birth to a son on 21 May 2012. The couple had a second child, a girl, on 15 February 2020 through surrogacy.
