Shimmer and Shine is an animated television series from America. It was created by Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz. The show is about two genie sisters and their human friends.
It first aired on Nickelodeon on August 24, 2015. Later, new episodes moved to the Nick Jr. channel starting March 18, 2018. The series has four seasons and 86 episodes in total.

What is Shimmer and Shine About?
The first season of Shimmer and Shine takes place in the human world. It follows a young girl named Leah. She is best friends with twin genie sisters, Shimmer and Shine.
Every day, the genies grant Leah three wishes. But they often make funny mistakes! Leah and the genies work together to fix these problems. They also try to keep Shimmer and Shine a secret from Leah's friend, Zac.
In the second season, the characters travel to Zahramay Falls. This is a magical land where Shimmer and Shine live. Leah tells Zac about her genies. Zac then gets his own genie named Kaz.
Shimmer and Shine keep granting Leah wishes in Zahramay Falls. They also become friends with Princess Samira, the ruler of the land. The show introduces new characters like Samira's pet peacock, Roya, and Leah's pet fox, Parisa. There's also a villain, Zeta the sorceress, and her dragon, Nazboo.

Humans and Genies
- Shimmer (voiced by Eva Bella in the US) – She is a very positive genie with pink hair. Shimmer is always excited and loves to encourage others. She enjoys cleaning, glitter, and collecting genie bottles. Her pet is a gibbon monkey named Tala.
- Shine (voiced by Isabella Cramp in the US) – Shine is a brave genie with blue hair. She loves animals and is often hungry. Her pet is a white Bengal tiger cub named Nahal. Shine knows a lot about magical creatures. Unlike Shimmer, she doesn't like cleaning. She often says, "It's like I always say..." and then makes up something funny.
- Leah (voiced by Alina Foley in the US) – Leah is a blonde girl with green eyes. She wears a special necklace that holds Shimmer and Shine. Even when the genies mess up her wishes, Leah is patient and kind. At first, she kept her genies a secret from Zac. But she told him when they went to Zahramay Falls. Princess Samira lets Leah and Zac visit Zahramay Falls whenever they want. Leah wears a genie disguise there to fit in.
- Zac (voiced by Blake Bertrand in seasons 1-2, then Justin Felbinger and Ethan Jones in later seasons) – Zac is Leah's neighbor and best human friend. In the first season, he doesn't know Leah has genies. He often reacts to strange things in a calm way. He also likes to tell Leah funny stories. In season two, he learns about the genies and gets his own genie, Kaz.
- Princess Samira (voiced by Nikki SooHoo) – She is the kind ruler of Zahramay Falls. Samira watches over all the genies in training. She can also grant wishes. She sometimes gives genies special magic Genie Gems. Samira is Shimmer and Shine's teacher and mentor. She sees Zeta as her rival, but she still likes Zeta. Samira hopes they can be friends again, as they were students together long ago.
- Zeta the Sorceress (voiced by Lacey Chabert) – Zeta lives in Zahramay Falls and is Princess Samira's rival. She wants to be the most powerful person there. Zeta is a sorceress, not a genie, so she uses magic potions instead of granting wishes. Her plans usually fail because of Shimmer, Shine, and Leah. Sometimes, her own pride causes her plans to go wrong. Even though she causes trouble, the girls and Zac are usually friendly to her. Zeta and Samira were once friends and students together.
- Kaz (voiced by Jet Jurgensmeyer) – Kaz is a genie in training who becomes Zac's genie in the second season. He is more careful and easily scared than Zac. But they work well together and can be brave. Kaz thinks more about how he grants wishes. He has a magic carpet and a pet Ziffilon named Zain.
- Empress Caliana (voiced by Barbara Eden) – She is Princess Samira's famous teacher. Caliana gave Samira her special necklace. She was a great explorer and discovered many things, like the Caliana Caves. Caliana taught genies at her school. Zeta was her top student, but she became jealous of Samira and left to become a sorceress.
- Captain Zora (voiced by Kellie Pickler and Kate Higgins) – A pirate genie who is Shine's hero. She can be a bit clumsy and forgetful. Captain Zora has a flying pirate ship. Shine gets very nervous and excited around her.
- Layla (voiced by Danica McKellar) – An ice genie and good friend of Princess Samira. She has an ice gem necklace that gives her freezing powers. She used to live in a genie bottle. Now she lives in an ice palace.
- Shaya (voiced by Kin Santiago and Hudson West) – A lightning genie in training. He rides a flying cloud-board and can make magical lightning. Leah and her genies helped him catch a runaway lightning bolt. He learned about teamwork from them.
- Nila (voiced by Mila Brener) – A mermaid who lives near Zahramay Falls. Leah and her genies became friends with Nila. She helped them find a special gem to change them back from mermaids. Now they can visit Nila and have underwater adventures.
- Imma (voiced by Grace Kaufman) – The Waterfall Genie who looks after the rainbow waterfalls in Rainbow Zahramay. She uses water magic with her staff. The girls helped her fix a problem with the falls.
- Wishy Washy Genie (voiced by Fred Tatasciore) – A male genie who can fix or remove wishes. He is very indecisive, just like his name. The children helped him make decisions.
- Ayla (voiced by Liliana Mumy) – A genie who can change hairstyles.
- Minu (voiced by Kitana Turnbull) – A flitter genie.
- Afina (voiced by Julie Nathanson) – The Glitter Genie who lives in a sparkly palace on a cloud.
- Princess Ula (voiced by Tatyana Ali) – The ruler of Rainbow Zahramay. She is also the Gem Princess, giving magic to all the Genie Gems.
- Nadia (voiced by Brittany Snow and Lana McKissack) – The Dream Genie. She is the only genie who can grant wishes about dreams. She knows about everyone in Zahramay Falls.
- Ezri (voiced by Gunnar Sizemore) – Nadia's assistant. Like Nadia, he knows everyone in Zahramay Falls.
- Misha (voiced by Jewel and Kailey Snider) – The Animal Genie. She helps all the genies find their pets.
- Princess Adara (voiced by Tania Gunadi) – The beautiful stardust princess of Zahramay Skies.
- Rubi (voiced by Luna Bella) – The Rainbow Genie of Zahramay Skies.
- Shaun (voiced by Ramone Hamilton) – Shaya's twin brother, who is a cloud genie.
Animals
All animals in the series are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
- Tala – Shimmer's pet gibbon monkey. She has green eyes and wears white pearls. Tala is a great dancer.
- Nahal – Shine's white Bengal tiger cub. She wears pink jewels and a gold circlet. Nahal is good at playing the keyboard.
- Rocket – Zac's pet beagle. He is a playful dog who sometimes causes trouble by drooling or chewing. He is the only pet from Leah and Zac's world. He was wished to Zahramay Falls and was first seen as a monster by some genies and animals.
- Nazboo – Zeta's talking pet dragon. He helps Zeta with her plans. Nazboo is a bit clumsy and often makes Zeta's plans go wrong. He loves food and tummy rubs. He is friendly to Leah, Zac, and their genies. Nazboo is from Manetikar, the Land of Dragons.
- Roya – Princess Samira's pet peacock. She loves to show off her feathers. Roya does not like Zeta and Nazboo. Once a year, she sheds a special feather that can fix magic objects.
- Parisa – Leah's pet Zahramay fox. She can camouflage herself, making her almost invisible. Parisa is also good at painting. She was introduced in the second season.
- Zain – Kaz's pet Ziffilon, which is like a griffin. Kaz always wanted a Ziffilon, so Zac wished for him. Zain is the biggest of the pets and can be ridden. He gets scared easily. His favorite food is Zlam Berries.
- Zoomicorns – These are winged unicorns from Zahramay Falls. They are friendly and sometimes help the girls. There is a game called Zoomicorn Toss. Gleam is a named Zoomicorn.
- Scallywag – Captain Zora's magical pet. Scallywag helps Zora remember things. Her magic can go out of control when she is scared.
- Nazboo's Family – Nazboo has three siblings: Razboo, Kazboo, and Frank. They are small, flightless dragons. They look like Nazboo and are friendly and playful. They also love food and tummy rubs.
- Gleam – A blue glitter Zoomicorn from Rainbow Zahramay.
- Lulu – Misha's pet Panda.
- Zahrora, Zoomdust, and Zadazzle – These are three Zahracorns. Zahrora is Shimmer's, Zoomdust is Shine's, and Zadazzle is Leah's.
- Dahliza – Princess Adara's Zahracorn.
- Fuzzle Whuzzles – Small creatures found in Rainbow Zahramay.
- Azah – Rubi's Zahracorn.
How the Show Was Made
Shimmer and Shine started from an idea developed in 2013. Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz, who worked on Dora the Explorer, created the pilot. Nickelodeon decided to make it a full series in March 2014.
The first season had 20 episodes and started on August 24, 2015. On February 11, 2016, the show was renewed for a second season. This season used CGI animation, which is a type of computer graphics. The second season began on June 15, 2016.
The show was renewed for a third season of 20 episodes on June 21, 2016. This season premiered on May 5, 2017. A fourth season of 20 episodes was announced on May 24, 2017. It premiered on October 20, 2018, and was later increased to 26 episodes.
Where to Watch Shimmer and Shine
Shimmer and Shine first aired in the United Kingdom on Nick Jr. UK on November 9, 2015. For the UK version, British voice actors were used. However, the voices for Zeta and the animals stayed the same.
