Illusive Media: A Creative Journey

When Shomi Patwary was a student at Old Dominion University, he started a creative group called Illusive Media. He created it with his good friend and classmate, Philip Ly.

Helping Artists Shine

At first, this group helped underground artists get noticed online. Later, they worked with famous artists like Sean Paul and N*E*R*D. Illusive Media helped these artists create a cool image that reached more fans.

Making Music Videos

As websites changed, Shomi and Illusive Media started directing music videos. They gave these videos to popular bloggers. This helped artists share their music with many people. Shomi has directed music videos for several artists, including A$AP Mob and Clipse.

A Unique Style

Shomi is known for his fast and creative way of making videos. He often shoots, edits, and releases a project very quickly. This allowed Illusive Media to stay a creative group, not just a big business. This unique style attracted top musicians and music industry leaders.

Shomi is also respected for working closely with musicians. He listens to their ideas and adds his own creative touch. This makes the projects a true team effort. He worked with many other artists at Illusive Media, like Phil Ly, Abe Vilchez-Moran, and Robert Elliot Simmons. Shomi's younger brother, Tashfiq, is also part of a production team called VERYRVRE. They have produced songs for groups like A$AP Mob and Santigold.

Helping Haiti with Music

After the big 2010 Haiti earthquake, Shomi helped with a special project. He teamed up with Robert Simmons, Jay McCord, Kenna, Lupe Fiasco, and Mike Shinoda. They made a music video called "Resurrection." This video helped promote "Music For Relief." The song was written and the video was directed for free. All the money raised went to help people in Haiti after the disaster.

Working with KarmaloopTV and The FADER

In April 2012, Shomi joined Karmaloop.com's TV team. He became an in-house music video director and TV producer.

Building a Brand

Shomi worked with KarmaloopTV to build their TV and music video brand. He helped connect it with Karmaloop's online store, which sells streetwear. During the summer of 2012, KarmaloopTV created a new part of their company called Karmaloop Media.

Directing for Stars

While at Karmaloop, Shomi directed videos for many famous artists. These include Beyoncé, ASAP Rocky, Diplo, Stalley, Wale, and A-Trak.
