Schools in Silkstone's Past

  • The first school in the area was Newtown State School. It opened a long time ago, on July 1, 1882.
  • Later, in 1915, this school moved to a new spot. It was then renamed Silkstone State School.

Churches and Their Journeys

  • In 1895, plans were made for a church called All Saints' Anglican Church. It was first built in a nearby area called Bundamba.
  • The church building was quite adventurous! In 1913, it was moved to Silkstone. Imagine rolling a whole church on beer barrels!
  • It moved again in 1930, this time on a big truck, to its current spot in Booval. A new church hall was opened there too.
  • Another church, the Silkstone Baptist Church, opened in 1912. It was built on the main road connecting Blackstone and Ipswich.
  • This church also got an upgrade. In 1929, a new brick church building was opened right next to the original one.

Bremer State High School

  • Bremer State High School first opened its doors in Silkstone on January 26, 1959.
  • In 2011, the high school moved to a brand new location in the Ipswich suburb.
