Snow Mountain is a tall mountain found in Oxford County, Maine. It stands about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the border between the U.S. and Canada, near Québec.
Sometimes, people call this peak "Cupsuptic Snow". This helps tell it apart from another mountain also named Snow Mountain. That other mountain is about 10 miles (16 km) to the northeast. Snow Mountain has other peaks nearby. To its north is Kennebago Divide Mountain. To its south are Twin Mountains and West Kennebago Mountain.
Where Water Flows from Snow Mountain
Snow Mountain is part of a large area where water collects, called a watershed. All the rain and melted snow from Snow Mountain eventually flows into the upper Androscoggin River. This river then empties into Merrymeeting Bay. Merrymeeting Bay is where the Kennebec River meets the ocean, flowing into the Gulf of Maine.
Water Flowing West
The water from the west side of Snow Mountain flows into Snow Mountain Brook. This brook then joins the Cupsuptic River. The Cupsuptic River flows into Cupsuptic Lake. From there, the water travels through several other lakes. Finally, it reaches the Rapid River and then Umbagog Lake. Umbagog Lake is actually where the Androscoggin River begins!
Water Flowing South and Northeast
Water from the south side of Snow Mountain flows into the East Branch of the Cupsuptic River. The northeast and northwest parts of Snow Mountain drain into Wiggle Brook. Wiggle Brook then flows into the Kennebago River, which also leads to Cupsuptic Lake.
