The Spring Awakening Music Festival (SAMF) was a yearly music event. It featured electronic dance music (EDM). This festival took place in Chicago, USA.
It began as a concert series in 2008. The festival grew and moved to Soldier Field from 2012 to 2015. Later, it was held at Addams/Medill Park from 2016 to 2018. In 2019, the festival moved to the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The festival did not happen in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, it returned to Addams/Medill Park in October. The 2022 event was planned for the United Center but was later cancelled.

Festival History
Spring Awakening started as small concerts in 2008. It quickly became very popular. By 2012, it grew into a big outdoor music festival. React Presents, a company from Chicago, organized it. The first outdoor festival was held at Soldier Field.

React Presents is a company based in Chicago. They started in 2008. This company organizes many music events. They put on concerts and festivals. Besides Spring Awakening, they also produce the North Coast Music Festival.
Spring Awakening 2012
In 2012, SAMF became a two-day festival. It took place on June 16–17. The location was Soldier Field in Chicago. More than 50,000 people came to this event.
The main stage was set up inside the stadium. Many famous DJs performed. These included Skrillex, Afrojack, and Diplo. Other artists like Benny Benassi and Moby also played.
Spring Awakening 2013
The 2013 festival was even bigger. It expanded to three days. It happened from June 14–16 at Soldier Field. This year, the festival added more stages. There were two main stages and two tents.
Over 75,000 people attended the event. More than 100 artists performed. Top performers included Bassnectar, Calvin Harris, and ZEDD. Krewella and Porter Robinson also played.
Spring Awakening 2014
The third yearly festival was held on June 13–15, 2014. Spring Awakening was one of the few festivals open to all ages. The organizers started "SAMF Safe & Sound." This program helped attendees feel safe. They could contact security if needed.
Some of the main artists were Tiesto and Pretty Lights. Diplo and Knife Party also performed. Other popular DJs included Kaskade and Dillon Francis.
Spring Awakening 2015
The 2015 festival took place on June 12–14. It was held at Soldier Field. This year, SAMF had four stages. This allowed more than 75 acts to perform.
The festival changed its age rule. Attendees now had to be at least 18 years old. This decision was made to keep everyone safe. It also aimed to give attendees the best experience. Artists included ZEDD, Hardwell, and Tiesto. Diplo, Afrojack, and Martin Garrix also played.
Spring Awakening 2016
SAMF 2016 was held from June 10–12. It featured five stages. For the first time, there were two main stages. Over 100 artists performed. They played many types of electronic music.
The "DJ Stage" hosted acts like Above & Beyond and Kaskade. The Chainsmokers and Steve Aoki also performed there. The "Electronic Stage" featured Deadmau5 and Zeds Dead. Other artists included Jamie xx and RL Grime.
The festival moved to Addams/Medill Park in Chicago. This park offered lots of green space. It was easy to reach by public transportation. People could use the CTA Pink Line and Green Line trains.
Spring Awakening 2017
The 2017 Spring Awakening was from June 9–11. It was held at Addams/Medill Park. This park is on Chicago's southwest side. It is near Roosevelt Road and Ashland Avenue.
The lineup included many famous DJs. These were Armin van Buuren, Benny Benassi, and Paul van Dyk. Martin Garrix also performed. There were six different stages. Music played from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM each day.
