St Thomas' Church is a special building located on Broad Street in Pendleton, which is part of Salford in Greater Manchester, England. It's an active Anglican church, meaning it's part of the Church of England.
This church is important because it's a parish church, serving the local community. It's also part of a larger group of churches called the Salford All Saints' Team Ministry. This team includes St Aidan’s, St Luke’s, Emmanuel LEP, and Holy Angels.
St Thomas' Church is officially recognized as a Grade II listed building by English Heritage. This means it's a historic building that needs to be protected because of its special architectural or historical importance. It was also built with help from the Church Building Commission, which gave money to build new churches a long time ago.

History of St Thomas' Church
The church was built between 1829 and 1831. It was designed by two architects, Francis Goodwin and Richard Lane. The Church Building Commission provided a large amount of money, about £6,673, to help pay for its construction. This was a lot of money back in 1831!
What Does the Church Look Like?
Outside the Church
St Thomas' Church is made from ashlar stone, which means the stones are cut very smoothly. It's built in the Gothic Revival style, which looks like old medieval churches with pointed arches and tall windows.
The church has a nave (the main part where people sit), north and south aisles (sections on the sides), a chancel (the area near the altar), and a tall tower at the west end. The tower has three levels and pointed decorations called pinnacles at the top corners. It also has a main door, windows, clock faces, and openings for bells.
The sides of the church have walls with a special top edge called an embattled parapet, which looks like the top of a castle wall. Each section has a three-light window with decorative stone patterns called tracery. The east end of the church has a large six-light window.
Inside the Church
Inside, the church has arcades, which are rows of arches supported by slim pillars. There are also galleries on three sides. The gallery at the west end has a carved wooden canopy with the royal arms of King William IV.
Some of the side galleries have been changed into a chapel and meeting rooms. The stained glass windows in the chapel show scenes from the life of Saint Thomas. The large stained glass window at the east end, made in the 1840s, was likely created by Hardman & Co., a famous company known for its beautiful glasswork.
The church has a large organ with three manuals (keyboards). It was built in 1839 by Samuel Renn and later repaired around 1920 by Jardine and Company. There are also eight bells in the tower, all made in 1906 by John Taylor & Co.
Churchyard Features
The churchyard, which is the area around the church, contains the graves of soldiers. There are war graves for four soldiers from the First World War and one soldier from the Second World War. These special memorials help us remember their service.
