Stanley's Economy
Oil Production
Stanley is located on top of the Bakken Formation. This is a huge area that stretches across northwestern North Dakota, northeastern Montana, and southern Saskatchewan, Canada. The Bakken Formation is a very rich source of oil.
Oil was first found here in the 1950s. However, for a long time, it was too expensive to get the oil out of the ground and sell it for a profit. But thanks to new technologies for oil production and the rising price of oil, it has become profitable to extract the oil. This area might be one of the largest oil-producing regions on land in the Continental United States, outside of Texas and California. Experts believe it holds billions of barrels of oil.
