The Star Fox series is a collection of video games made by Nintendo. These games are mostly "rail shooters" or "action-adventure" games. In a rail shooter, you fly a spaceship and shoot enemies, but your path is set. In action-adventure games, you explore and solve puzzles.
The games follow a team of brave animal heroes called the Star Fox team. They are led by Fox McCloud, a clever fox. The team flies cool spaceships called Arwings and goes on exciting adventures. They explore the Lylat planetary system and fight bad guys. Sometimes they even battle on foot!
The very first Star Fox game came out in 1993 for the SNES. It was special because it used a "Super FX Chip." This chip helped the SNES create the first 3D graphics on a home game console. It made the game look more realistic for its time. Later games in the series gave players more freedom to fly wherever they wanted.
Because of a company in Germany called StarVox, the first two games had different names in Europe and Australia. Star Fox was called Starwing, and Star Fox 64 was called Lylat Wars. But after Star Fox Adventures, Nintendo started using the same name for the games all over the world.

Main Star Fox Games
Star Fox (1993)
The first Star Fox game came out in 1993 for the SNES. In Europe and Australia, it was called Starwing. This game was special because it used the Super FX chip. This chip helped create 3D graphics when most games were still 2D.
In the game, Fox McCloud and his team—Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi—fight against the evil Andross. Andross wants to take over the Lylat system. The idea for the game came from a Japanese fox shrine that the creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, visited.
Star Fox 64
Star Fox 64 came out in 1997 for the Nintendo 64. In Europe and Australia, it was called Lylat Wars. This game was a big step forward! It had full voice acting for the characters. Players could also move their ships more freely, not just on a set path.
The game also added new vehicles, characters, and even a multiplayer mode. It was the first Nintendo 64 game to use the Rumble Pak. This attachment made your controller shake, letting you feel the action! Star Fox 64 retells the story of the first game but with new twists. It's famous for funny lines like "Do a barrel roll!"
Star Fox 64 3D
Star Fox 64 3D is a remake of Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 3DS. It was released in 2011. This was the second Star Fox game made for a handheld console.
The gameplay is very similar to the original Star Fox 64. You control Fox's Arwing spaceship using the circle pad. You can also use the 3DS's special "Gyro Controls" to steer by tilting the console. Character messages and controls appear on the bottom touch screen. A new multiplayer "Battle Mode" lets up to four players fight each other. You can even see your friends' faces on screen using the console's camera!
Star Fox Adventures
Star Fox Adventures was released in 2002 for the GameCube. This game was different! It was mostly an action-adventure game. Fox used a magical staff instead of his Arwing for most of the game. You only flew the Arwing in small parts between chapters.
This game introduced new characters like Prince Tricky and Krystal. The story takes place eight years after Star Fox 64. Fox and Krystal even fall in love! The gameplay was similar to The Legend of Zelda games, focusing on exploration and puzzles.
Star Fox: Assault
Star Fox: Assault came out in 2005 for the GameCube. This game brought back more of the Arwing flying action. But it also had parts where you played on foot. The story happens one year after Adventures. A new enemy called the Aparoids threatens the Lylat system. The Star Fox team must stop them!
Star Fox Command
Star Fox Command was released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS. This was the first Star Fox game for a handheld system. It was also the first to let you play against others online! The game went back to being all about flying spaceships.
It used a new style of gameplay. You would draw flight paths on the DS touch screen. Then you would fly and fight enemies in open areas. Each character had a unique ship with different powers. The game has nine possible endings, depending on the choices you make!
Star Fox Zero
Star Fox Zero came out in 2016 for the Wii U. It was the first Star Fox game on a home console in over 10 years! You controlled the game using the Wii U GamePad's special motion controls. Star Fox Zero also came with another game called Star Fox Guard.
Star Fox 2
Star Fox 2 was actually finished but never released at first. Many of its ideas were used in Star Fox 64. These ideas included the rival team Star Wolf and the ability to move freely in battle. It also had a multiplayer mode and different ship types.
The game was finally released as part of the Super NES Classic Edition in 2017.
Other Star Fox Games
Star Fox Guard

The comic explained the backgrounds of Fox, Falco, and Andross. A sequel comic was also made, showing what happened after the game.
Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved Falco Manga
Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved Falco is a Japanese comic (manga) that tells a story between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures. It explains why Falco left the Star Fox team for a while. It also introduces a new bad guy, Captain Shears. The story ends with the Star Fox team seeing Dinosaur Planet, which leads into the start of Star Fox Adventures.
Star Fox Zero – The Battle Begins Video

Things You See Again and Again
The Arwing Spaceship
The Arwing is the main spaceship used by the Star Fox team. It has been in every Star Fox game!
The Arwing's design has changed over time, but it always keeps its basic shape. It has a main body and two special side parts called "Gravity Diffusers." These parts help it fly. From Star Fox 64 onwards, the side parts are a cool blue color.
The Arwing also appears in the Super Smash Bros. games. It's used when Fox and Falco appear on screen. It even flies through some stages, shooting lasers at the players! You can also find the Arwing as furniture in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk. If you touch it, it plays the Star Fox theme music!
The Landmaster Tank
The Landmaster M1 tank first appeared in Star Fox 64. It's a tank that the Star Fox team can use in some missions.
It also appears in Star Fox: Assault, but with wheels instead of tank treads. The Landmaster even shows up in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a special move for Fox.
The Wolfen Spaceship
The Wolfen is the spaceship flown by Wolf O'Donnell, Fox McCloud's rival. This cool ship was first seen in Star Fox 64.
In Star Fox 64, you can even fight a stronger version called the Wolfen II. In Star Fox: Assault, you can play as Team Star Wolf and fly the Wolfen in multiplayer mode. The Wolfen has also appeared in the Super Smash Bros. series.
