Starrah's Early Life and Music Journey
Starrah grew up in Delaware as the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. She started writing by creating short stories and poems.
She went to Delaware State University. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to start a music career. She began by sharing her music on SoundCloud and selling small music samples on Instagram.
A manager in the music industry noticed her work and helped her connect with other songwriters. This led to Starrah co-writing "Be Real" for Kid Ink in 2015. This song reached number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Big Hits in 2016
In 2016, Starrah wrote several songs that became very popular. "2 Phones" by Kevin Gates sold so well it became "double platinum." Rihanna's song "Needed Me" reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for a long time.
In September 2017, Starrah released a special music project with producer Diplo. It was called Starrah x Diplo.
In 2019, Starrah started working with Hipgnosis Songs Fund. She also worked closely with Madonna on six songs for Madonna's 2019 album, Madame X.
Her first single as a lead artist, "How It Goes," was released on August 12, 2020.
How Starrah Creates Music
Starrah has shared that when she writes songs, she usually starts with the lyrics first. After she has the words, she then finds a melody (the tune) and the right music production to go with them.
