Stitch (also known as Experiment 626) is a fun, blue alien character from Disney's Lilo & Stitch movies and TV shows. He looks a bit like a koala and was created in a lab. Stitch is one of the main characters, along with his human best friend, Lilo Pelekai. Chris Sanders helped create Stitch and also voices him in most of the English shows.

Stitch was first made by Dr. Jumba Jookiba to cause lots of trouble across the galaxy. At first, Stitch was very mischievous. But when Lilo adopted him as her "dog," everything changed. Lilo taught Stitch about ohana, which means 'family' in Hawaiian. Because of Lilo, Stitch learned to be caring and loving. He became a part of their family on Earth. Stitch now believes strongly in ohana and helps Lilo find homes for Jumba's other experiments, who he calls his "cousins."

What Does Stitch Look Like?

Stitch is a blue, koala-like alien. He is about three feet tall. He has big ears, a wide mouth, a round nose, and black eyes. He also has a small tail and three tufts of fur on his head and chest. Stitch has four arms, but he can hide two of them. He also has three spines on his back and four sharp claws on each paw. He can hide these too! Two antennae on his head can also retract.

Lilo often calls Stitch a dog. This is because he pretended to be a dog to escape from his captors. Lilo found him at an animal shelter and adopted him.

Stitch's Adventures

Stitch's Beginning in Lilo & Stitch

In the first movie, we learn that Stitch was created by a "mad scientist" named Dr. Jumba Jookiba. Jumba called him "Experiment 626." Both Jumba and Stitch were caught and put on trial by the United Galactic Federation.

Stitch was sentenced to life imprisonment on a desert asteroid. But he escaped! His spaceship crashed in Kauaʻi, Hawaii. To hide, Stitch pretended to be a dog. A little girl named Lilo adopted him and named him "Stitch."

Lilo tried to teach Stitch to be good. She even used Elvis Presley as an example! At first, Stitch still caused trouble because of his programming. But he slowly started to care for Lilo. He even saved her from Captain Gantu. Because Stitch became a hero, the Grand Councilwoman let him stay on Earth with Lilo. Lilo became his best friend and like a sister to him.

Finding Cousins in Stitch! The Movie

In Stitch! The Movie (2003), Stitch finds 625 other experiments. They are all hidden in a crate as small, dry pods. Stitch helps rescue Jumba from Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel. But this leads to the other experiments being set free! Lilo and Stitch get captured, but Stitch is saved by Experiment 221, also known as "Sparky." Stitch then saves Lilo, and they land Hämsterviel's spaceship back in Kauaʻi.

Adventures in Lilo & Stitch: The Series

In Lilo & Stitch: The Series (2003–06), Stitch and Lilo work together. Their job is to find Jumba's other experiments. They have to turn them from bad to good and find them a new home. Stitch meets many challenges. He even meets Experiment 627, who is stronger than him. But Stitch uses his smarts to win! He also meets Angel (Experiment 624), who becomes his girlfriend.

Stitch's Glitches in Lilo & Stitch 2

Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch (2005) takes place before Stitch! The Movie. Stitch is living happily with Lilo, Jumba, and Pleakley. But he starts to have problems. Stitch was not fully charged when he was created. This causes him to have "glitches" where he goes back to being destructive.

Jumba tries to build a special charging chamber for Stitch. Stitch doesn't want to hurt anyone, so he tries to leave Earth. But Lilo and the others try to bring him back to recharge him. Even though they are almost too late, Stitch is saved by Lilo's love. This shows that love is stronger than anything.

Becoming a Captain in Leroy & Stitch

After catching all the experiments, Stitch is offered a big job. He can become the captain of the Galactic Armada! But this means leaving Lilo. Stitch decides to stay with Lilo, but Lilo tells him to go. She gives him a special necklace for strength.

Stitch's first mission is to catch Dr. Hämsterviel again. But he faces a new experiment: Leroy. Leroy is an even stronger clone of Stitch! Stitch fights hard, but Leroy wins. Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley are sent towards a black hole. Leroy goes to Earth to capture all the other experiments.

Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley escape the black hole. They rescue Lilo, Reuben, and Gantu. They fly back to Earth to help the other experiments fight Leroy's army. After defeating Leroy, Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley return to Earth with Lilo. They realize that family is the most important thing.

Stitch in Japan: Stitch! (Anime)

In the anime series Stitch! (2008–11), Stitch ends up on an island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. He meets a new human friend named Yuna Kamihara. Later, Lilo, now grown up, visits Japan with her daughter, Ani. Stitch and Lilo have a happy reunion. Lilo explains why Stitch left her and promises to visit again. She gives Stitch his tiki necklace back.

Stitch in China: Stitch & Ai

In the Chinese animated series Stitch & Ai (2017), Stitch is kidnapped by space criminals. He escapes to the Huangshan mountains in China. There, he meets a young girl named Wang Ai Ling. She takes him in as her new "dog," just like Lilo did. Jumba and Pleakley also join them to protect their new family.

Stitch's Personality

Stitch is a very unique character. Many people don't like him at first because he is destructive and has a bad temper. People like Mertle or Hämsterviel call him "ugly." But those who love him, like Lilo, Jumba, and Nani, think he is "cute and fluffy."

When Stitch is being "evil," he can be scary. But when he is "good," which is how we usually see him, he tries hard to be good for Lilo. He shows his feelings when he feels rejected, which makes him seem more lovable.

Stitch was made to destroy things. But he also has his own personality. He can choose not to destroy. Even after he becomes "good," he still has some wild impulses. Luckily, Lilo is always there to support him, and he supports her back. Stitch is very strong and smart, but he is also sensitive and acts a bit like a child.

Stitch's Powers and Weaknesses

Amazing Powers

Stitch has many amazing powers! His creator, Dr. Jumba, said he is:

  • Bulletproof and fireproof.
  • Can think faster than a super computer.
  • Can move objects at least 3,000 times his size.

Stitch can catch plasma blasts (energy shots) with his hands and throw them back! He survived his spaceship crashing with only a scratch. He can also survive falling from very high up. In one movie, he drove a truck full of gasoline into a volcano. He was launched into the air by the explosion and was fine!

Stitch is super smart. He can build complex things just by looking at them. He can solve puzzles very quickly. He can also play musical instruments like the guitar or ukulele. Stitch can drive any vehicle, from a tricycle to a spaceship!

He can lift things 3,000 times his own weight. He once picked up a heavy blast door. He also threw a car at Dr. Jumba!

Stitch's hands and feet are sticky. This lets him climb walls and ceilings. His body is very flexible, so he can roll into a ball or squeeze into small spaces. He can jump very high.

His eyes are special. He can see in normal vision, night vision (green), infrared (red), and X-ray (bright green). He can also zoom in with his vision.

Stitch can also act like a speaker or microphone. He can use his finger to play a record, and the music comes out of his mouth! He has a great sense of smell and hearing. He is also very good at fighting with his four arms.

Stitch also seems to live a very long time. He doesn't show signs of getting old, even after many years!

What Makes Stitch Weak?

Stitch has a few weaknesses:

  • He cannot float or swim. His body is very dense, so he sinks in water.
  • Loud noises can temporarily make him deaf.
  • Bright flashes of light are painful to his eyes.
  • He can only lift things up to 3,000 times his weight, not an ounce more.
  • In Lilo & Stitch 2, he had "glitches" that made him destructive. This was because he wasn't fully charged when he was created. But this problem was fixed!

In some later shows, Stitch gains new powers. In Stitch! ~Best Friends Forever~, he has a hidden power cell. In Stitch & Ai, he can change his shape. He can grow quills, glide like a flying squirrel, and even turn into a giant monster with laser tentacles when he's very destructive!
