Strathgordon is a small, quiet area in Tasmania, Australia. It is located in the Derwent Valley Council region. This area is about 121 kilometers (75 miles) west of the town of New Norfolk. In 2016, only 15 people lived in the wider Southwest area, which includes Strathgordon.
Strathgordon is found on the road leading to the Gordon River Dam. This is the most south-westerly road in the South West Wilderness of Tasmania. Many visitors come here to explore the beautiful Southwest National Park. This park is part of a special World Heritage-listed wilderness area.
Even though Strathgordon is quite far from other towns, you can still buy fuel there. The Lake Pedder Wilderness Lodge offers fuel, places to stay, and meals. The closest basic shops and services are about 70 kilometers (43 miles) away in Maydena. The road from Maydena to Strathgordon is winding but offers amazing views of the South Western Wilderness.

History of Strathgordon
Strathgordon was officially recognized as a place in 1968. It started as a "company town" for workers building dams. These dams were part of a big project by Hydro Tasmania. This project created the hydro-electric power system.
The construction led to the creation of two large lakes: Lake Pedder and Lake Gordon. These lakes are now important parts of the area. A post office opened in Strathgordon on July 16, 1969.

The main road in Strathgordon is Route B61. It is also known as the Gordon River Road. This road runs through the area from the south-east to the south-west.

Strathgordon has a cool oceanic climate. This means it has cool summers and cold winters. Nights are often crisp and clear all year round. It gets a lot of rain, making it one of the wettest places in Australia.
The area is also very cloudy for most of the year. It has the fewest sunny hours in Australia, with only about 1,478 hours of sunshine each year. Snow often falls in winter and spring. Sometimes, it can snow quite heavily. On average, there are about 13 snowy days each year.
