Where is Stratton Located?
Stratton covers an area of about 46.9 square miles (121.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. The highest point in the town is Stratton Mountain.
The famous Stratton Mountain Resort is located at the northern end of this mountain. The community of Stratton Mountain includes the base of the resort. It also has homes built to the north in the nearby town of Winhall.
A Look at Stratton's History
Stratton has some interesting history. In 1840, a famous speaker named Daniel Webster gave a speech on Stratton Mountain. About 10,000 members of the Whig Party came to hear him speak.
More recently, in 2011, Hurricane Irene caused a lot of flooding. Stratton was one of thirteen towns in Vermont that became cut off from others because of the floodwaters.
