Sunninghill is a lovely village located in Berkshire, England. It's part of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, close to the famous town of Ascot. This area is known for its beautiful homes and green spaces.

Where is Sunninghill?
Sunninghill is about 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Heathrow Airport. It's also around 26 miles (42 km) from the heart of Central London.
It's very close to Ascot, a town famous for its exciting horse racing events! You'll find Sunninghill near Sunningdale, the huge and beautiful Windsor Great Park, and the well-known Wentworth Golf Club. The historic town of Windsor is only about 7 miles (11 km) away.
For travel, major roads like the M3 motorway and the A30 road are nearby. The M25 London Orbital motorway is also easy to reach. The closest train stations are Ascot and Sunningdale. These stations connect to London Waterloo.
What's in a Name?
The name Sunninghill has an interesting history. It means "the home of Sunna's people." Sunna was likely an Anglo-Saxon chief, and his tribe was called the Sunningas.
A Look Back in Time
The local church, St Michael and All Angels, has been around for a very long time. It was first built around the year 890! However, it was rebuilt in 1808 and again in 1826–27.
In the center of the village, you'll find Cordes Hall. This building was designed by Edward and Joseph Morris and finished in 1902. It's a key part of the village's history.
Grand Homes of Sunninghill
Sunninghill is mostly a residential area. This means it's full of homes, often large ones, with their own big gardens.
Silwood Park
Silwood Park was first set up as a manor house in 1362 by John de Sunninghill. Today, it's a campus for Imperial College London, a famous university. From 1965 to 2012, a small nuclear reactor called CONSORT was used here for scientific research.
The Cedars
The Cedars is a historic house located across from the church. It's so important that it's listed as a Grade II building on the National Heritage List for England.
Many interesting people have lived at The Cedars. In the 1700s, a politician named John Yorke lived there. Later, the writer and poet George Ellis called it home. The famous novelist Walter Scott even stayed at The Cedars with Ellis. He wrote part of his epic poem Marmion while enjoying the garden there!
Tittenhurst Park
Tittenhurst Park is another famous home in Sunninghill. John Lennon, a member of The Beatles, lived here with his wife, Yoko Ono, from 1969 to 1971. After them, Ringo Starr, another Beatles member, lived there until the late 1980s.
Before the Beatles, in the 1800s, the house belonged to Thomas Holloway. He was a successful businessman and a philanthropist, meaning he gave a lot of money to good causes. Holloway founded Royal Holloway, London University, which is nearby. He also started the Holloway Sanatorium. Thomas Holloway and his wife, Jane, are buried in the churchyard at Sunninghill.
