Super Monkey Ball is a fun video game where you guide a monkey in a ball. It's a type of game called a platformer. The game was made by a company called Amusement Vision and released by Sega.
It first came out in Japan in January 2001. Back then, it was an arcade game called Monkey Ball. It even had a special joystick shaped like a banana! Later, it was released around the world for the Nintendo GameCube. It was a launch title, meaning it came out when the console did. It arrived in Japan on September 4, 2001, in North America on November 18, 2001, and in Europe on May 3, 2002.
How to Play the Game
Super Monkey Ball has three main ways to play. These are the Main Game, Party Games, and Mini-Games.
Main Game
In the main game, your goal is to guide a cute monkey inside a hamster ball. You roll the monkey across platforms floating high in the air. You need to reach a goal at the end of each level. There are four different monkeys you can choose to play as.
Each level has a time limit, either 30 or 60 seconds. You control the game using the GameCube controller's stick. When you move the stick, the whole level tilts. This makes your monkey ball roll in that direction.
You can collect bananas on each level. Bananas give you points. If you collect enough bananas, you get an extra life! You lose a life if you fall off the level or if time runs out.
There are three main difficulty levels:
- Beginner: This has ten easy levels.
- Advanced: This has 30 levels that are a bit harder.
- Expert: This has 50 very challenging levels.
If you play well, you can unlock "extra" levels for each difficulty. There's also a super hard "Master" difficulty. You unlock it by finishing Expert and Expert Extra levels without using a "continue." Master has ten very tough levels.
Party Games
There are three fun party games to play with friends:
- Monkey Race: Players race against each other on different tracks. The goal is to get the best finishing rank.
- Monkey Target: You roll your monkey down a ramp. Then, you open the monkey's ball to fly through the air. You try to land on one of several islands. There are three levels for this game.
- Monkey Fight: Players punch other monkeys to earn points. The monkey with the most points when time runs out wins!
Mini-Games
You can unlock three minigames by earning points in the main game. These are Monkey Bowling, Monkey Billiards, and Monkey Golf. Each mini-game is based on a real-life sport.
