Tamworth is a lively market town and borough in Staffordshire, England. It is located about 14 miles (23 km) northeast of the big city of Birmingham. In 2019, around 77,000 people were estimated to live in Tamworth.

A Look at Tamworth's Past
Tamworth has a very long and interesting history. It was once the main city, or capital, of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom called Mercia. This was a powerful kingdom in early English history.
For a long time, Tamworth was split between two different counties: Warwickshire and Staffordshire. But in 1889, the whole town officially became part of Staffordshire.
Tamworth Castle: A Historic Gem
One of the most famous places in Tamworth is Tamworth Castle. This amazing castle was built in the 12th century, which means it's over 800 years old! It stands proudly in the town and is a great place to learn about history.
Getting Around Tamworth
Tamworth has its own railway station. It is on a very important railway line called the West Coast Main Line. From this station, you can catch direct trains to many places. These include Birmingham, London, and Crewe.
Other trains, run by a company called CrossCountry, also stop at Tamworth. These trains can take you even further. You can travel directly to places like Nottingham, different parts of Yorkshire, Scotland, South Wales, and even Cornwall.
