Early Life and Education

Tariq Jamil was born on October 1, 1953, in Mian Channu, a town in Punjab, Pakistan. His family was a wealthy Punjabi Rajput family who owned a lot of land. They were descendants of Prithviraj Chauhan, a ruler from the 12th century. His family also ruled Tulamba, a town near Mian Channu, in the 16th century.

Tariq Jamil's younger brother, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Kamal Sahu, is a well-known heart doctor. He works at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore.

Schooling and Religious Studies

Jamil went to Central Model School, Lahore for his early education. He later attended Government College University, Lahore. After finishing his pre-medical studies at Government College Lahore, he started studying medicine at King Edward Medical College. However, he decided to leave medical school to focus on religious education.

He received his Islamic education from Jamia Arabia in Raiwind. There, he studied important Islamic texts and subjects. These included the Qur’an, hadiths (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad), Sufism (Islamic mysticism), logic, and Islamic jurisprudence (Islamic law).

His sermons often focus on important values. He teaches about "self-purification," which means working to become a better person. He also emphasizes avoiding violence, following the commands of Allah (God), and living according to the example of Prophet Muhammad.

Jamil also started the Maulana Tariq Jamil Foundation. This is a non-profit organization located in Tulamba, Khanewal. The foundation collects money to support social work, health, and education projects. Its goal is to help the people of Pakistan.
