Ten Mile Run is a small stream, also called a tributary, that flows into the Millstone River. It runs through parts of southern South Brunswick and southern Franklin Park in New Jersey, United States.

Its name comes from how far away early explorers thought it was from the Raritan River. They measured this distance from an old road called Kings Highway, which is now Route 27.

The Journey of Ten Mile Run

Ten Mile Run begins its journey near where Georgetown-Franklin Turnpike meets Route 27. It flows across Route 27 and Gateway Boulevard. The stream then winds through the edge of a neighborhood. It also crosses New Road.

As it continues, several smaller streams join Ten Mile Run. These smaller streams come from the nearby residential areas. The main stream crosses Route 27 again, where you might see a sign marking it. It then flows alongside Bunker Hill Road. The stream even passes through the Bunker Hill Golf Course.

After that, Ten Mile Run crosses Butler Road. More small streams join it there. Finally, it flows through the T&C Preservation Land. This land is right next to the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Ten Mile Run then empties into the Millstone River.

Exploring Ten Mile Run

You can easily visit Ten Mile Run in many places. Roads and walking paths make it simple to get close to the stream. Some popular spots include the Bunker Hill Golf Course. You can also explore the Bunker Hill Natural Area. The Ten Mile Run Greenway is another great place to access the stream.

Amazing Animal Life

Ten Mile Run is home to many small fish. These fish are usually between 1 and 6 inches long. You can often spot them swimming in the clear water.

In the slower parts of the stream, you might see several frogs. They like to hang out near the water's edge. If you look carefully, or even use bait, you might find crayfish. These small creatures are like tiny freshwater lobsters.

The Stream's Ground and Rocks

The bottom of Ten Mile Run is often rocky. Some of the smaller streams that feed into it are very rocky. These smaller streams often come from underground springs. They flow through storm drainage systems in neighborhoods.

Near Butler Road, the stream has natural, smooth rocks on its bed. These rocks can be a bit slippery because of plants growing on them. You might also see some shale cliffs along the stream. They are similar to, but smaller than, the cliffs along the Nine Mile Run. Farther downstream, the streambed becomes sandy.

Other Streams in the Area

Ten Mile Run is one of many streams that flow into the Millstone River. Here are some of its "sister" streams:
