Discovering Teringie
Teringie was originally a private area of land. Its name was officially approved in 1978. The local council preferred "Teringie" over the first idea, "Teringie Heights." The name "Teringie" comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "place of beautiful birds."
The western part of Teringie has some houses closer together, but most homes are still large and on bigger-than-average plots of land. As you go further east, you'll find even larger blocks, often covered in bushland, stretching into big valleys.
Teringie is next to Morialta Conservation Park to the north. To the south, it borders other suburbs like Norton Summit, Horsnell Gully, Skye, and Auldana.
People of Teringie
A large part of the land in Teringie was once owned by a famous person named RM Williams. He was known for his clothing and boots. You can still see parts of his original brick factory, which are now part of a home on Norton Summit Road. Some of the land he owned is still in his family today.
