Petey's TV Journey
Petey the puppy first appeared in four special TV episodes. These were part of the ABC Weekend Specials series between 1978 and 1981. The specials were called The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy, The Puppy's Great Adventure, The Puppy's Amazing Rescue, and The Puppy Saves the Circus.
These puppy specials were so popular that ABC decided to make a full TV series! In 1982, Petey got his own weekly show, The Puppy's New Adventures. It was part of a bigger cartoon block called The Scooby & Scrappy-Doo/Puppy Hour. Billy Jacoby was the voice of Petey, and Nancy McKeon voiced his girlfriend, Dolly.
The next year, Petey and his friends got their very own half-hour show. It was renamed The Puppy's Further Adventures. After the show finished its original run, episodes from both The Puppy's New Adventures and The Puppy's Further Adventures were shown again. They were called The Puppy's Great Adventures when they aired on ABC in 1984 and later on CBS in 1986.
Meet the Puppy Pals
Here are the main characters from the show:
- Petey (voiced by Billy Jacoby): He's a Beagle mix puppy and the leader of the group. He's very loyal and loving, and his girlfriend is Dolly.
- Dolly (voiced by Nancy McKeon): A cheerful and outgoing female Spaniel Cross puppy. She's Petey's girlfriend and the only girl in their group.
- Duke (voiced by Michael Bell): A German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix. He's a strong and caring friend to Petey and the others.
- Dash (voiced by Michael Bell): A sleek and speedy Greyhound. He's the smartest in the group, but sometimes he can be a bit scared. Still, he's brave when it counts!
- Lucky (voiced by Peter Cullen): A big St. Bernard. He's strong, kind, and wise, even if he's not always the quickest thinker.

The Puppy's New Adventures (1982–83)
In the first season, Petey and Dolly's human family moved overseas by ship. Their friends Duke, Dash, and Lucky secretly came along on the same ship. But then, a lightning bolt hit the ship, and all five dogs fell overboard! They were stranded far from home. In every episode, the dogs searched for Tommy and his family. Their adventures took them to many different places, like East Berlin, Australia, Hong Kong, and Hawaii. They often helped local people or animals they met along the way.
