Tiffany Adaeze Porter (born 13 November 1987) is a talented track and field athlete. She is known for her speed in the 100 metres hurdles race. Tiffany has both British and American nationality.

She first competed for the United States as a junior athlete. In 2010, she started representing Great Britain as a senior. She even competed for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Tiffany won a bronze medal in the 100 m hurdles at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. In 2014, she earned a silver medal for England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Later that year, she won her first big title. She took home a gold medal at the 2014 European Athletics Championships. This made her the first British woman to win a European title in this event.

Her fastest time in the 100 m hurdles was 12.51 seconds, set in 2014. This was a British record until 2022. She has also won two medals in the 60 m hurdles at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. Tiffany is the older sister of Cindy Sember, who is also a top hurdler for Great Britain. Both sisters reached the final of the 100 m hurdles at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Early Life and Background

Tiffany Porter's father, Felix, is from Nigeria. Her mother, Lalana, is British of African descent. Tiffany was born in the United States. She has had both American and British nationality since birth. This means she could choose to represent either country. She has said she is "proud to be American, British and Nigerian."

College Athletics at Michigan

Tiffany (Ofili) Porter was a star athlete at the University of Michigan from 2006 to 2009. She was a five-time national champion in the NCAA. The NCAA is a sports organization for college athletes in the United States. Tiffany won three national titles in a row in the 100-meter hurdles. These wins were from 2007 to 2009.

Her Athletics Career

Switching Countries

When Tiffany was a junior athlete, she competed for the United States. She won a silver medal at the 2007 NACAC Championships. In 2010, she decided to compete for Great Britain. She explained that she felt connected to all three of her backgrounds. She said she would perform well no matter which country she represented.

Breaking British Records

On May 29, 2011, Tiffany broke a 15-year-old British record. She ran the 100 m hurdles in 12.77 seconds. The previous record was 12.80 seconds. She lowered her own British record on July 22, 2011. She ran 12.60 seconds at a Diamond League meeting. This was her fastest time ever at that point. Her record was later broken by Jessica Ennis in 2012.

World and European Success

In 2013, Tiffany changed coaches to Rana Reider. She moved to Loughborough to train. At the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, she won a bronze medal. Her time was 12.55 seconds, very close to the British record.

Tiffany started 2014 by winning a bronze medal in the 60 m hurdles. This was at the World Indoor Championships. In August, she won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She finished behind Sally Pearson of Australia. Two weeks later, she won the 2014 European Athletics Championships in Zurich. Her time was 12.76 seconds. In September 2014, she set a new UK record of 12.51 seconds. This happened at the IAAF Continental Cup.

Later Career and Retirement

Tiffany won another bronze medal at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She finished seventh at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

She took a break from athletics in 2019 to have a child. When she returned, she won a bronze medal. This was at the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held in 2021), she did not make the final. Tiffany retired from athletics in February 2022.

Personal Life

Tiffany Porter is married to American hurdler Jeff Porter. They got married in May 2011. She started competing under her married name, Tiffany Porter, in July 2011.

She earned a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Michigan in 2012. This shows she is very smart both on and off the track! She is also a Catholic.
