Tisha Michelle Campbell (born October 13, 1968) is an American actress and singer. She first appeared in the 1986 movie Little Shop of Horrors. Later, she starred in the TV show Rags to Riches (1987–1988).
Tisha Campbell is well-known for her roles in popular TV comedies. She played Gina Waters-Payne in Martin (1992–1997). She also starred as Janet "Jay" Marie Johnson-Kyle in My Wife and Kids (2001–2005). For My Wife and Kids, she won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.

Early Life and Family Background
Tisha Campbell was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She grew up in Newark, New Jersey. She went to Newark Arts High School there. She also attended Washington Academy of Music in East Orange, New Jersey.
Her mother, Mona Shockley, was a nurse and a gospel singer. Her father, Clifton Campbell, worked in a factory and was also a singer. He was also a chess master. Both her parents encouraged her love for music. Tisha has an older brother, three younger brothers, and a younger sister.
Tisha Campbell's Acting Career
Starting as a Young Actress
Tisha Campbell began acting at a very young age. Her first TV appearance was in 1974 on the PBS show The Big Blue Marble. As a child, she won many talent shows. She appeared on children's shows like Kids Are People Too and Captain Kangaroo.
At 17, she was in the movie Little Shop of Horrors. She played Chiffon, part of a singing group. Her future co-star and friend, Tichina Arnold, was also in the movie.
Becoming a TV Star
After high school, Tisha moved to Hollywood. She became a star on the NBC show Rags to Riches (1987–88). She then appeared in the movie School Daze, directed by Spike Lee.
In 1990, she starred in the comedy House Party. She was nominated for an award for this role. She also appeared in its sequels, House Party 2 (1991) and House Party 3 (1994). She also acted alongside Eddie Murphy in Another 48 Hrs. (1990) and Boomerang (1992).
Popular TV Shows
In 1992, Tisha Campbell got a big role as Gina Waters-Payne in the Fox comedy series Martin. This show was very popular. She stayed on the show until it ended in 1997.
In 2001, she returned to TV in the ABC comedy series My Wife and Kids. She starred with Damon Wayans. She won an NAACP Image Award for her role in 2003. The show ran for five seasons.
After My Wife and Kids, she was in the show Rita Rocks (2008–09). In 2011, she starred in the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth. She also appeared in the ABC sitcom Dr. Ken (2015–2017). In 2018, she played Simone Biles' mother in a Lifetime movie about the gymnast.
Tisha Campbell's Music Career
In 1993, Tisha Campbell released her first music album, Tisha. Two of her songs, "Push" and "Love Me Down," were played on R&B radio stations. She also sang a song for the movie Sprung with Tichina Arnold.
She has appeared in several music videos. These include videos for Will Smith and Toni Braxton. In 2015, she released a new song called "Steel Here." She released more songs, "I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight" in 2018 and "22 Summers" in 2019.
Giving Back: Philanthropy
In 2011, Tisha Campbell helped start a group called Colored My Mind. This group works to teach people about childhood autism. She was inspired to start this because her son, Xen, was diagnosed with autism when he was very young.
Personal Life
Tisha Campbell married actor Duane Martin in 1996. They have two sons together. They divorced in 2020.
In 1996, Tisha Campbell had some disagreements during the final season of the show Martin. She later settled the issues and returned for the last two episodes. She and Martin Lawrence have since become friends again.
