Tisha Michelle Campbell (born October 13, 1968) is an American actress and singer. She is famous for her roles in popular TV shows and movies. Her first big movie was the 1986 musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors.

Campbell is best known for playing Gina Waters-Payne in the comedy show Martin from 1992 to 1997. She also starred as Janet "Jay" Kyle in the family comedy My Wife and Kids from 2001 to 2005. For this role, she won an NAACP Image Award. She has also appeared in many other shows, including Dr. Ken and Uncoupled.

Early Life and Family

Tisha Campbell grew up in a family that loved music. She attended Newark Arts High School in New Jersey. Her mother, Mona, was a gospel singer and vocal coach. Her father, Clifton, was a singer and factory worker who also helped children in need. Tisha was encouraged to sing from a young age.

Career in Acting

First Steps on Screen

Campbell's first TV appearance was at age six on a show called The Big Blue Marble. As a child, she appeared in other kids' shows like Kids Are People Too and Captain Kangaroo.

When she was 17, she acted in the movie Little Shop of Horrors. She played Chiffon, a member of a singing group. Her best friend and future Martin co-star, Tichina Arnold, was also in the movie.

Becoming a Star

After high school, Campbell moved to Hollywood. She starred in the TV series Rags to Riches from 1987 to 1988. She also acted in the movie School Daze (1988), directed by Spike Lee.

Her role as Sidney in the 1990 comedy House Party was very popular. She was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her performance. She returned to play Sidney in the sequels House Party 2 (1991) and House Party 3 (1994).

Famous TV Roles

In 1992, Campbell began her role as Gina in the hit comedy series Martin. She starred alongside Martin Lawrence. During the final season, she left the show for a short time due to a serious disagreement with Lawrence. They later resolved their issues and returned to finish the show.

In 2001, she started playing Janet "Jay" Kyle in the ABC comedy My Wife and Kids, with Damon Wayans. The show was a big success and ran for five seasons. Campbell won an NAACP Image Award for her role.

Later, she appeared in shows like Rita Rocks (2008–2009), Dr. Ken (2015–2017), and the Netflix series Uncoupled (2022).
