Tom and Jerry: Blast Off to Mars is a fun animated movie from 2005. It's a science fiction comedy and adventure film that stars the famous cat and mouse, Tom and Jerry! It was made by Warner Bros. Animation and Turner Entertainment Co.. This was the second Tom and Jerry movie made especially for home video, not for cinemas.

Even though the planning and finishing touches happened in the United States, the animation itself was done by Toon City in Manila, Philippines. The movie first came out on DVD and VHS on January 18, 2005. Later, you could watch it on Blu-ray starting October 16, 2012. This film, along with Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry, came out around the time Tom and Jerry celebrated 65 years since they first appeared in 1940. It's also special because it was the first Tom and Jerry movie that Joseph Barbera worked on without his partner William Hanna, who passed away in 2001.

Story of the Movie

The movie starts with Tom (voiced by Bill Kopp) chasing Jerry like always. Their chase leads them all the way to the "International Space Place." Here, astronauts Buzz Blister (voiced by Jess Harnell) and Biff Buzzard (voiced by Billy West) are getting ready to fly to Mars.

Accidental Trip to Mars

Tom and Jerry accidentally cause a big scene during a speech. People think they are aliens at first because Tom gets covered in green paint! The staff tries to catch them. Tom gets caught and is thrown out. Later, during a test of special dried food, Jerry knocks over a cup. This causes the food to explode everywhere! The staff then tries to catch Jerry. They realize only Tom can catch him, so they bring Tom back and tell him to get rid of Jerry.

During their chase, Tom and Jerry land right onto a rocket! The rocket takes off, and they end up on Mars.

Meeting Martian Friends and Foes

On Mars, they meet a green female alien named Peep (voiced by Kathryn Fiore). She has an alien dog named Ubu (voiced by Frank Welker) and two other Martians (voiced by Jeff Bennett and Tom Kenny). Jerry is taken to the Martians' secret lair. They mistake him for someone very important called the "Great Gloop." After some funny mix-ups, they figure out Jerry isn't the Great Gloop.

Tom, Jerry, and Peep then take over a flying saucer (also known as a UFO). They want to fly back to Earth to warn everyone about a possible attack from the Martians. They manage to stop the Martians.

The Invince-a-tron Attack

But then, a giant orange robot vacuum cleaner called the "Invince-a-tron" arrives on Earth. It starts sucking up everyone with its vacuum! Tom, Jerry, and Peep work together to stop the Invince-a-tron. They use a bone to trick Spike (also voiced by Frank Welker) into going inside the robot's brain. This makes the robot break down and get destroyed.

After the Adventure

After saving Earth, Tom and Jerry are rewarded with a cool Hummer truck by the U.S. President (also voiced by Jeff Bennett). But before they can even drive it, the Invince-a-tron, now fixed, attacks them again! This time, Spike is controlling it and wants revenge because they broke his bone. Peep flies back to Earth in the flying saucer and saves Jerry. But she leaves Tom behind! Tom is still being chased by the Spike-controlled Invince-a-tron as the movie ends.

In the end, astronauts Biff and Buzz are cleaning up the mess. This is their punishment for lying about there being no life on Mars. They start arguing and fighting about it. Meanwhile, a scared Tom is still being chased by the robot into the sunset!
