The Story of Tom and Jerry in Oz
A Kansas Adventure Begins
The story starts in Kansas with a girl named Dorothy Gale. She lives on a farm with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. She also has farmhands named Hunk, Hickory, and Zeke. Dorothy has a dog named Toto, a cat named Tom, and a mouse named Jerry.
Aunt Em asks Tom and Jerry to get along and watch over Dorothy. They don't really want to, but they agree. Later, a lady named Miss Almira Gulch arrives. Toto had bitten her earlier, and she takes him away. Tom and Jerry chase after her and bravely free Toto.
Soon after, Dorothy runs away from home with Toto. Tom and Jerry head back to the farm. A big tornado hits the area! Tom and Jerry try to get into the storm cellar with the others but can't. They get knocked out while trying to get inside the house.
Welcome to Munchkinland
When Tom and Jerry wake up, they find themselves in a magical place called Munchkinland. They meet a small grey Munchkin mouse named Tuffy. Tuffy first thinks Tom wants to eat Jerry, but Jerry quickly explains it's a misunderstanding.
Tuffy tells them that the house they arrived in landed on and crushed the Wicked Witch of the East. Because of this, the Good Witch of the North, Glinda, gave the witch's ruby slippers to Dorothy. But then, the Wicked Witch of the West appeared, wanting the slippers for herself!
Glinda told Dorothy to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City. There, she could find the famous Wizard of Oz to help her get back home. Tuffy tells Tom and Jerry not to follow, but they promised to protect Dorothy. So, they insist on going after her. Tuffy also wants to be taller, so he decides to join them to see the Wizard.
Meeting New Friends
Tom, Jerry, and Tuffy soon catch up with Dorothy and Toto. Along the way, they meet some new friends. First, there's the Scarecrow, who wishes he had a brain. Then, they meet the Tin Man, who wants a heart. Finally, they meet the Cowardly Lion, who hopes the Wizard can give him courage.
They all travel together to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard. The Wizard agrees to grant their wishes. But first, they must defeat the Wicked Witch of the West and bring back her broomstick.
Facing the Wicked Witch
The group walks through a spooky forest to reach the Witch's castle. Dorothy, Tom, Jerry, and Toto are captured by the Witch's flying monkeys. The Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion try to follow them. Jerry bites one of the flying monkeys and gets free, but he and Tom are dropped by the monkeys.
At the Witch's castle, the Witch puts Toto in a basket. She threatens to drown him if Dorothy doesn't give her the ruby slippers. Dorothy agrees, but the Witch is surprised when she can't take the slippers off. She then remembers that the slippers won't come off as long as Dorothy is alive. The Witch places an hourglass, saying Dorothy only has a few hours to live. Jerry manages to free Toto, who escapes the castle to get help.
The Witch's Downfall
The Witch sees Jerry and throws him out a window with Tom. They meet two of the Witch's guards, Droopy and Butch. Accidentally, Droopy and Butch mention that the Witch's weakness is water. A chase begins, and Tom and Jerry manage to knock out Droopy and Butch.
They then reunite with Tuffy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion. These friends are disguised as guards and led by Toto. While Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion rescue Dorothy, Tom, Jerry, and Tuffy try to get water. They try to fill a bucket from a well and then from the moat, but it's hard to get it back inside the castle. Finally, they manage to catch a rain cloud and use it to fill the bucket.
The Witch and her guards corner Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion. The Witch sets the Scarecrow on fire! Dorothy, with help from Tom and Jerry, puts out the fire with the water. She accidentally splashes the Witch, destroying her as she melts away.
Wishes Granted and a Return Home
The Witch's soldiers celebrate her defeat and let Dorothy take the broom. The friends return to the Emerald City and show the broom to the Wizard. He still says he won't grant their wishes until tomorrow. It turns out the Wizard is just a regular person using tricks behind an illusion.
Even so, he promises to grant their wishes. The Scarecrow gets a diploma, the Tin Man gets a testimonial, and the Lion gets a medal. Tuffy gets stilts to make him taller. The Wizard takes Dorothy, Tom, Jerry, and Toto back to Kansas in his hot air balloon. The others are left in charge of the Emerald City.
As the balloon is about to leave, Tom sees a chick and jumps out to chase it. Jerry and Toto follow to stop him. Dorothy runs after them. They can't get back to the balloon before it takes off with the Wizard. Then, Glinda appears and tells Dorothy another way home: by tapping her heels together and saying, "There's no place like home." Dorothy, Tom, Jerry, and Toto say goodbye to their friends.
They all wake up in Dorothy's bedroom back in Kansas. Their family and friends are around them. It's revealed that Tuffy is a farmhand, Droopy is a local shop owner, and Butch is someone's pet dog. Dorothy tells them about her amazing adventures. But everyone insists it was all a dream, except for Tom, Jerry, and Toto, who believe her. Dorothy promises never to run away again, and Tom and Jerry go back to their usual chase outside the house.
