Early Life and Education
Tommy Page was born in 1967 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. His parents were Fred and Miriam Page. He grew up in a nearby town called West Caldwell.
He finished high school at James Caldwell High School in 1985. Tommy started studying at New York University's Stern School of Business. He paused his studies when his music career began. He later went back and finished his degree in 1997.
Music Career Highlights
In 1985, Tommy and his brother, Bill Page, started a band called Broken Promises. They released a short album with four songs. Tommy played keyboards, piano, and sang backup vocals for the band.
A year later, while in college, Tommy worked at a nightclub in New York. This job helped him share his demo tapes with the club's DJ. The DJ liked his music and used it in his mixes. Soon, Tommy met Seymour Stein, who founded Sire Records.
Tommy was then asked to write the main song for the movie Shag. This became his first single. His first album, Tommy Page, came out in 1988. It included popular songs like "A Zillion Kisses" and "A Shoulder to Cry On".
His next album, Paintings in My Mind, was a big success. It featured his No. 1 hit song in the U.S., "I'll Be Your Everything". Members of the famous group New Kids on the Block helped write and perform on this song. Other songs from this album included "When I Dream of You" and "Turn on the Radio".
In 1991, Tommy released his third album, From the Heart. This album showed his wider vocal range. He worked with famous songwriters like Michael Bolton and Diane Warren on the song "Whenever You Close Your Eyes". Tommy also appeared on an episode of the TV show Full House in 1992. He sang a special song for Stephanie Tanner's birthday.
Tommy Page released an album called A Friend to Rely On in 1992 for his fans in Asia. It had a duet with Sally Yeh and a cover of Nik Kershaw's "Wouldn't It Be Good".
Before his 1994 album Time, Tommy performed on Broadway. He took over for Donny Osmond in the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for three months. After this, Tommy focused on releasing albums in Asia. He signed with the Japanese record company Pony Canyon Records.
In 1995, he released his first collection of hit songs, Greatest Hits: Dedicated to You. He also sang a duet with Tiffany called "Close Our Eyes". His album Loving You came out in 1996. It featured a duet with Amy Mastura and a cover of John Waite's "Missing You".
Later Career in Music Industry
After his singing career, Tommy Page became an executive at Warner Bros. Records. He helped guide the careers of many famous artists. These included Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Josh Groban, and Green Day.
In 2011, he joined Billboard magazine as a publisher. He created new features for the magazine, like the Industry Icon Award. In 2013, Tommy Page became the head of music partnerships at Pandora Internet Media.
In 2015, he released a new version of his 1990 song, "I Break Down 2015". In 2016, he released an album called My Favorites. This CD had 18 of his best ballad songs.
