Tony Lorenzo Delk (born January 28, 1974) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He also worked as a college assistant coach. He was last an assistant coach for the New Mexico State Aggies basketball team.
During his time as a player, Tony Delk was a key leader for the Kentucky Wildcats team. They won the NCAA Championship Game in 1996. After college, he played for eight different teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) over 10 seasons.

Tony Delk's High School Years
Tony Delk went to Haywood Junior High School and Haywood High School. Both schools are in Brownsville, Tennessee. In 1992, during his senior year of high school, Delk was named "Mr. Basketball" for the state of Tennessee. This award is given to the best high school basketball player. He was also chosen for the Parade and McDonald's All-American Teams. These teams feature the top high school players in the country.
Tony Delk's College Basketball Career
Tony Delk played college basketball at the University of Kentucky. As a sophomore, he was recognized for his great play. Coaches voted him to the All-SEC 2nd Team. The Associated Press also named him to the All-SEC 3rd Team. He was also part of the All-SEC Tournament Team.
During the 1994–95 season, Delk was named to the All-SEC 1st Team. He also made the All-NCAA Regional teams. In the 1995–96 season, Delk was chosen for the All-American and All-SEC first teams. He was also named the NCAA basketball tournament Most Outstanding Player. This award goes to the best player in the NCAA tournament. He also received the SEC Player of the Year award that season. While at Kentucky, Delk joined the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Tony Delk's Professional Playing Career

Tony Delk was chosen as the 16th player overall in the 1996 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He was later traded to the Golden State Warriors in 1997. He played there for two seasons. Then, he signed with the Sacramento Kings in 1999. He played 46 games for them in the 1999-00 season. After that, he joined the Phoenix Suns in 2000.
On January 2, 2001, Tony Delk had an amazing game against the Kings. He scored a career-high 53 points in an overtime game. He made 20 out of 27 shots. This was the only game in his career where he scored 30 or more points. Delk was later traded to the Boston Celtics.
In 2003, Delk was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. After one year with the Mavericks, Delk was traded again. This time, he went to the Atlanta Hawks. He played for the Hawks for about a season and a half. He then signed with the Detroit Pistons in March 2006. There, he played as a backup point guard.
Tony Delk finished his NBA career with good averages. He scored 9.1 points per game, had 2.5 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game. In August 2006, he signed a contract with a Greek basketball team called Panathinaikos in Athens. With Panathinaikos, he won the Greek Cup, the Greek Championship, and the European Championship in 2007. He left the team in May 2007. He announced his retirement from professional basketball in November 2007. However, in 2008, he played three games for the Gigantes de Carolina in Puerto Rico. He then retired again and worked as a technical assistant for the same team.
Tony Delk's Coaching Career

On April 16, 2009, it was announced that Tony Delk would return to his old college, the University of Kentucky. He joined his former college teammate Scott Padgett. They both became assistant coaches for coach John Calipari's staff.
In July 2011, the New Mexico State Aggies basketball team hired him. He became an assistant coach for Marvin Menzies.
In June 2013, Delk left the New Mexico State staff. He wanted to find other opportunities closer to his family in Atlanta.
Tony Delk's Broadcasting Career
In October 2014, the SEC Network announced that Tony Delk had been hired. He became an in-studio analyst and announcer for college basketball games. He helped explain the games and players to viewers.
Tony Delk's Personal Life
Tony Delk is the president of the Taylor Delk Sickle Cell Foundation. This foundation is named after his daughter, who has sickle cell disease. This is a health condition that affects red blood cells.
