Tony Lorenzo Delk (born January 28, 1974) is a former American basketball player and coach. He played professionally for many years. He was a key player for the Kentucky Wildcats when they won the 1996 NCAA Championship. After college, he played for eight different teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 10 seasons. He also worked as a college assistant coach.

High School Basketball Star
Tony Delk went to Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tennessee. He was a very talented player. In his senior year, 1992, he was named "Mr. Basketball" for the state of Tennessee. This award goes to the best high school basketball player. He was also chosen for the Parade and McDonald's All-American Teams. These teams feature the best high school players in the whole country.
College Career at Kentucky
Tony Delk played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. As a sophomore, he was recognized as one of the best players in the SEC. Coaches voted him onto the All-SEC 2nd Team. He also made the All-SEC Tournament Team.
In the 1994–95 season, Delk continued to excel. He was named to the All-SEC 1st Team. He also made the All-NCAA Regional team. His best season was 1995–96. During this time, he was named an All-American and All-SEC first team player. He also won the NCAA basketball tournament Most Outstanding Player award. This award goes to the best player in the NCAA Tournament. He was also named SEC Player of the Year.

Playing in the NBA

The Charlotte Hornets picked Tony Delk as the 16th overall player in the 1996 NBA draft. He started his professional career there. In 1997, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors. He played for them for two seasons. Then, in 1999, he signed with the Sacramento Kings.
In 2000, Delk joined the Phoenix Suns. On January 2, 2001, he had an amazing game against the Kings. He scored a career-high 53 points in an overtime game. This was the only time in his career he scored 30 or more points. Later, he was traded to the Boston Celtics.
After playing for the Celtics, Delk was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2003. He played one year there. Then, he was traded again to the Atlanta Hawks. He played for the Hawks for a season and a half. In 2006, he joined the Detroit Pistons. He helped the team by playing as a backup point guard.
Tony Delk finished his NBA career with good statistics. He averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. In August 2006, he signed a contract to play in Greece. He joined the Panathinaikos team in Athens. With Panathinaikos, he won the Greek Cup and the Greek Championship. He also won the European Championship in 2007. He announced his retirement from professional basketball in November 2007. However, in 2008, he played three games in Puerto Rico for the Gigantes de Carolina.
Coaching Career

After his playing career, Tony Delk became a coach. On April 16, 2009, he returned to his old college, the University of Kentucky. He became an assistant coach for the Kentucky Wildcats team. He worked under coach John Calipari.
In July 2011, Delk moved to another college team. He was hired as an assistant coach for the New Mexico State Aggies basketball team. He worked with head coach Marvin Menzies. In June 2013, Delk left New Mexico State. He wanted to be closer to his family in Atlanta.
Broadcasting Career
In October 2014, Tony Delk started a new career. The SEC Network hired him as a basketball analyst. He worked in the studio and as an announcer for college basketball games.
Personal Life
Tony Delk is the president of the Taylor Delk Sickle Cell Foundation. This foundation is named after his daughter. She has sickle cell disease, a blood disorder. The foundation helps people learn about and fight this disease.
