Tajuan Edward "Ty" Law (born February 10, 1974) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback for 15 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). A cornerback is a defensive player who tries to stop passes and tackles players.
Ty Law mostly played for the New England Patriots. He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines. There, he was named an All-American. The Patriots picked him in the first round of the 1995 NFL draft.
During his 10 years with the Patriots, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl four times. He also earned two first-team All-Pro honors. Ty Law won three Super Bowls with the Patriots. He holds the team record for most interceptions. He later played for the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Denver Broncos. He was chosen for a fifth Pro Bowl with the Jets. Ty Law is 24th in NFL history for career interceptions. He led the league in interceptions in 1998 and 2005. He was added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

Early Life and High School Football
Ty Law grew up in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He went to Aliquippa High School. There, he played football, basketball, and ran track. In football, he played many positions. These included cornerback, safety, wide receiver, and running back. He was named the most valuable player (MVP) of his school's basketball team. In 1991, he helped Aliquippa win the state high school football championship.
Ty Law's uncle is Tony Dorsett, a famous football player. Dorsett is in the Hall of Fame. Law spent summers with his uncle in Dallas when he was young.
College Football Career
Ty Law played college football at the University of Michigan for three years (1992–1994). He was a top player and earned All-American honors. He was also chosen for the All-Big Ten Conference team twice.
He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine in 1994. This was for a famous play called the Miracle at Michigan. He was the defender trying to stop a long pass. After his junior year, he left Michigan to join the NFL Draft. He did this because his family was having money problems.
He finished his college career with 154 tackles. He also had six interceptions and 17 passes defended.
Professional Football Journey
Joining the NFL Draft
Before the 1995 NFL Draft, Ty Law asked the NFL for their opinion. They thought he would be picked in a later round. However, the New England Patriots saw him as a top defensive player. They rated him higher than many experts did.
New England Patriots Years (1995–2004)
The New England Patriots picked Ty Law in the first round of the 1995 NFL draft. He was the 23rd player chosen overall. He was the second cornerback picked that year.
Starting His Career (1995–1997)
Ty Law signed a five-year contract with the Patriots in 1995. He started as a backup cornerback. By the end of his first season, he became a starter. He made his first interception in November 1995 against the Buffalo Bills. He also had his first sack that year.
In 1996, he continued to play well. He scored his first touchdown by intercepting a pass and running it back. The Patriots reached Super Bowl XXXI that season. They lost to the Green Bay Packers. In 1997, Law started all 16 games for the first time. He became a key player for the team.
Leading the League in Interceptions (1998)
In 1998, Ty Law had an amazing season. He intercepted nine passes, which was the most in the NFL. He also scored a touchdown on one of his interceptions. He was chosen for his first Pro Bowl that year. This was a big honor for him.
Key Player and Super Bowl Wins (1999–2004)
In 1999, the Patriots signed Ty Law to a large contract. He continued to be a strong defender. He had another interception returned for a touchdown.
In 2001, Ty Law had another great season. He scored two touchdowns from interceptions. He was selected for his second Pro Bowl. The Patriots had a fantastic year. They won Super Bowl XXXVI against the St. Louis Rams. Ty Law made a big play in that game. He intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. This was the first touchdown of the game.
In 2002, Law continued his strong play. He had four interceptions and was chosen for his third Pro Bowl. In 2003, he helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XXXVIII. In the AFC Championship game, he had three interceptions against Peyton Manning. This was a huge performance. The Patriots then beat the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl.
In 2004, Ty Law played in seven games before getting a foot injury. This injury kept him out for the rest of the season. Even without him, the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXIX. This gave Ty Law his third Super Bowl ring.
Moving to Other Teams (2005–2009)
The Patriots released Ty Law in 2005. He then signed with the New York Jets. In his first season with the Jets, he led the NFL in interceptions again with 10. He was chosen for his fifth Pro Bowl.
In 2006, he joined the Kansas City Chiefs. He played there for two seasons. He then returned to the New York Jets for a short time in 2008. His final NFL season was in 2009 with the Denver Broncos. He played seven games and had one interception.
Ty Law always felt a strong connection to the Patriots. He once said, "I am a Patriot for life."

Life After Football
After retiring from the NFL, Ty Law started a business. He founded Launch Trampoline Park. This is a chain of fun places with many trampolines. Launch parks are located in New England and Delaware. Ty Law often visits the Rhode Island location. He sometimes plays trampoline dodgeball with customers there.
In 2014, Ty Law was chosen for the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. He was officially added on August 1, 2014. On February 2, 2019, he was selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This is a very high honor in football. He was inducted on August 3, 2019, in Canton, Ohio.
