Tyrone Benskin was born on December 29, 1958. He is an English-Canadian actor, theatre director, and politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Jeanne-Le Ber area in Montreal, Quebec. He was elected in the 2011 Canadian federal election and served until 2015.

Life and Career
Benskin was born in Bristol, England. He moved to Canada in 1968 when he was nine years old.
Artistic Journey
Tyrone Benskin studied theatre in Montreal. He became well-known in plays, movies, TV shows, and music. He has performed on famous stages like the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. He also worked at the National Arts Centre and the Centaur Theatre in Montreal.
Benskin also used his voice for characters in cartoons. He was Kobalt in the 1996 animated series of Flash Gordon. He also voiced Rousso, Bo and Wimzie's father, in the children's TV show Wimzie's House.
In Politics
On January 30, 2011, Benskin became a candidate for the New Democratic Party. He ran in the Jeanne-Le Ber area of Montreal. This was for the 2011 Canadian federal election. Many thought he had a good chance to win in Quebec. The party leader, Jack Layton, even said Benskin could become a minister.
On May 2, 2011, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada. He won by a large amount. He beat the current MP, Thierry St-Cyr.
Benskin was chosen to be the Official Opposition's critic for Canadian Heritage. This means he spoke for his party on issues related to Canadian culture. Later, he worked as a deputy critic for Official Languages. He was removed from this role after some financial issues came to light. Benskin apologized, explaining that he had financial challenges from his work as an artist before he became an MP. Benskin did not run again in the 2015 Canadian federal election.
