The Tyrrhenian Sea (called Mar Tirreno in Italian) is a part of the big Mediterranean Sea. It's located near Italy and some islands.

This sea touches the coasts of several Italian regions like Tuscany, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, and Calabria on the east. To the south, it touches Sicily. On its western side, it borders the islands of Corsica and Sardinia.

The name "Tyrrhenian" comes from an old Greek name for the Etruscans. They were an ancient people who lived in what is now central Italy.

Long ago, around 200 to 300 BC, the Romans used to call this sea "Mare Nostrum", which means "Our Sea" in Latin. This shows how important it was to them for travel and trade.
