Täsch is a small town, also called a municipality, in the beautiful Valais area of Switzerland. It's located in the Visp district. Täsch is special because it's only about 5 kilometers (3 miles) north of Zermatt. Zermatt is a very famous car-free town known for the Matterhorn mountain. Most people in Täsch speak Swiss German.

History of Täsch: A Look Back in Time
Täsch has a long history! The town was first written about in the year 1302. Back then, it was called Tech. In the old Latin language, people knew it as Pera.
Geography: Where is Täsch Located?
Täsch covers an area of about 58.7 square kilometers (22.7 square miles). A small part of this land, about 11.7%, is used for farming. About 9.3% of the area is covered by forests. Only a tiny bit, 0.9%, has buildings or roads. The largest part, 78.1%, is made up of mountains and other land that isn't used for farming or building.
The town is in the Mattertal valley. This valley is home to some of the tallest mountains in the Alps. These include famous peaks like Monte Rosa, Dom, and Weisshorn. The huge Täschhorn mountain, which is 4,490 meters (14,730 feet) tall, stands right above the village. Täsch includes the main village and smaller areas called Zermettjen and Täschberg. It also has the Täschalp, which is a popular area for hiking.
Transportation: Getting Around Täsch
Zermatt is a special town because cars are not allowed there. This means you can't drive directly to Zermatt. The main way to get there is by taking a train from Täsch railway station. This train runs very often. If you drive to Täsch, you can park your car there and then hop on the train to continue your journey to Zermatt. This makes Täsch a very important travel hub for visitors to Zermatt.

The official symbol of Täsch is its coat of arms. It shows a red background with a silver stripe across the middle. Above the stripe, there is a silver six-pointed star. This design is called Gules a Fess Argent, in chief a Mullet [of Six] of the same.

Täsch has a population of about 1,081 people (as of 2022). A good number of people living in Täsch, about 45.8% (as of 2008), are from other countries. Between 2000 and 2010, the number of people living in Täsch grew by 27.6%. This growth happened because more people moved to Täsch (21%) and because there were more births than deaths (4.7%).
Most people in Täsch speak German as their main language. About 85.4% of the population spoke German in 2000. The next most common languages were Serbo-Croatian (4.3%) and Portuguese (3.9%).
In 2000, about 52.3% of the people in Täsch were born there. Another 16.5% were born in the same canton (Valais). About 23.7% of the people were born outside of Switzerland.
