Uamh Bheag is a cool hill in Scotland! It's part of the Glen Artney Hills range. This area is just south of a big natural line called the Highland Boundary Fault. This fault separates the Scottish Highlands from the Central Lowlands. Uamh Bheag is the tallest hill in its range.
About Uamh Bheag
Uamh Bheag means 'Little Cave' in Scottish Gaelic. It stands 665.8 meters (about 2,184 feet) tall. This makes it a significant hill in the area. It is located in both Stirlingshire and Perth and Kinross. These are two different regions in Scotland.
The Summit Mystery
The top of Uamh Bheag is actually split into two parts. It has a west top and an east top. For a long time, people weren't sure which part was higher. The east top has a "trig point." This is a special marker used for surveying land.
In 2017, a detailed survey was done. This survey showed that the west top is about 2.4 meters (almost 8 feet) higher. So, the west top is the true summit! Now, the highest point has a small pile of stones called a cairn. There's also a cool face carved into a wooden fencepost there.
Climbing Uamh Bheag
Many people enjoy hiking up Uamh Bheag. It's a popular climb for those who love the outdoors. Hikers often combine their trip to Uamh Bheag with climbing a nearby hill. This other hill is called Beinn nan Eun. Both hills are usually climbed from a beautiful valley known as Glen Artney.
Climbing hills like Uamh Bheag is a great way to explore Scotland's nature. It offers amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Always remember to be safe when hiking. Make sure you have the right gear and tell someone where you are going.
