Uncle Max is a funny British TV show made for children. It's a comedy series that first aired on CITV and later on CBBC. The main character, Uncle Max, is played by David Schneider. His nephew, Luke, is played by William Howe in the first series and Jonathan Hanly in the second.

The show is very similar to Mr. Bean. Uncle Max often finds himself in tricky situations. No matter what adventure he tries, he usually ends up causing trouble for someone!

Behind the Scenes: Making the Show

The first series of Uncle Max was filmed in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was produced by Andy Rowley over seven weeks in the summer of 2005. David Schneider also wrote the show. There were 13 episodes made for CITV, and they were shown in 2006. The second series was filmed in Galway, Ireland.

Inspiration for Uncle Max

David Schneider, the actor who plays Uncle Max, shared some interesting facts about the show. He told The Times newspaper that parts of the series are inspired by the classic comedy duo Laurel and Hardy.

Most of the show's humor comes from cartoons that Schneider watched when he was growing up. These included famous cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, and Wacky Races.

Schneider also said that the name "Uncle Max" came from his own uncle, Max Ward. His uncle was born in Hastings and lived in Hackney, London. Schneider remembered that his Uncle Max often got into all sorts of adventures and would take young David along for the ride!

Silent Comedy Style

The Uncle Max show has very little talking. Instead, the characters make lots of vocal noises. You'll hear gasping, grunting, moaning, panting, and sighing. This style is similar to the sounds Rowan Atkinson makes as Mr. Bean in his animated series.

The show is made by Little Bird Pictures and is known as a "silent comedy." Many of the actions are made bigger and more dramatic, just like in many kids' shows. Sometimes, things happen in slow motion to build excitement or suspense.
