Uniondale is a community in Nassau County, New York. It is located on Long Island, within the town of Hempstead. Uniondale is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place.
In 2020, about 32,473 people lived here. Uniondale is also home to a big part of Hofstra University, a well-known college. In the 1970s, people in Uniondale tried to make it an official village, but it didn't happen.

Uniondale's Interesting Past
In the early 1970s, some people living in Uniondale wanted it to become a village. They felt their community wasn't being heard enough. This was especially true about plans for redeveloping Mitchel Field. However, their efforts to become a village were not successful. Uniondale is still a hamlet, which means it is governed by the Town of Hempstead.
A famous musician named Frank Zappa played his very last concert in the U.S. in Uniondale. This happened at the Nassau Coliseum in 1988.

Uniondale covers an area of about 2.7 square miles (7 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Between 2010 and 2020, Uniondale grew bigger. It took in the area that used to be called East Garden City. This change was part of how the U.S. Census Bureau defines these areas.

Uniondale is home to some important businesses. For example, Lufthansa, a major airline, has its main United States office here. They moved to Uniondale in 2019 from a nearby town called East Meadow.

Uniondale was once the main home for the New York Islanders. This is a professional ice hockey team in the NHL. They played many of their games at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Islanders played there from 1972 until 2015. They returned for a few more years between 2018 and 2021. After 2021, the team moved to a new arena called UBS Arena.
