The Valiants Memorial (French: Monument aux Valeureux) is a special monument in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It honors 14 important people from Canada's military past. It was officially opened on November 5, 2006, by Governor General Michaëlle Jean. The monument features nine busts (sculptures of a person's head and shoulders) and five life-sized statues. These artworks were created by artists Marlene Hilton Moore and John McEwen.

What is the Valiants Memorial?

The Valiants Memorial is a place where Canadians can remember heroes from different times in history. It helps us learn about the brave men and women who shaped Canada's military story. The monument is located near the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

Where is the Monument Located?

The monument is built around the Sappers Staircase. This is an underpass on the northeast side of Confederation Square. On the wall of the staircase, there is a famous quote from an old Roman poem called the Aeneid by Virgil.

The Famous Quote

The quote says: "Nulla dies umquam memori vos eximet aevo". This means "No day will ever erase you from the memory of time." It reminds everyone that these heroes will always be remembered.

The monument honors 14 people who played important roles in Canada's military history. They come from different periods, from the early days of New France to the Second World War.
