The Variable Antshrike (Thamnophilus caerulescens) is a type of bird found mostly in South America. It belongs to the Thamnophilidae family. This bird is special because its feathers, also called its plumage, can look very different from one bird to another. This is why it's called the "variable" antshrike!
This bird is usually about 14 to 16 centimeters (about 5.5 to 6.3 inches) long.
Where Does the Variable Antshrike Live?
You can find the Variable Antshrike in many parts of South America. It lives mostly in eastern and southern Brazil. You might also see it in places like Pernambuco and Alagoas in Brazil.
From southern Brazil, these birds spread out. They live in Uruguay, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. They are also found in Bolivia. You can even spot them along the eastern side of the Andes mountains in Peru. They live as far north as the Amazonas Region there.
This bird can live in many different places. However, it prefers foothills in northeastern Brazil. It usually does not live in areas higher than 2,600 meters (about 8,500 feet) above sea level.
