Vegard Ulvang (born October 10, 1963) is a famous retired Norwegian cross-country skier. He won many medals, including three gold medals at the Olympic Games. He also earned two silver medals and one bronze medal at the Olympics.
At the opening ceremony of the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, Vegard Ulvang took the special Olympic Oath. This is a promise made by an athlete on behalf of all competitors. It means they will compete fairly and respect the rules.
Besides his Olympic success, Ulvang received the Holmenkollen medal in 1991. This is a very high honor in skiing. He also won the overall World Cup title in 1990. He achieved nine victories in World Cup races. Ulvang also won the 50-kilometer race at the Holmenkollen ski festival three times: in 1989, 1991, and 1992.

A Champion Skier's Career
Vegard Ulvang was one of the top cross-country skiers for many years. He competed from 1984 to 1997. During this time, he won a total of 34 individual podiums in World Cup races. A podium means finishing in the top three. He also helped his team achieve 23 podium finishes in relay races.
Olympic Games Success
Ulvang had amazing results at the Winter Olympics. He competed in three Olympic Games.
- At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, he won a bronze medal. This was in the 30-kilometer classical race.
- The 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, were his most successful. He won three gold medals! These were for the 10-kilometer classical race, the 30-kilometer classical race, and the 4 × 10-kilometer relay with his team. He also won a silver medal in the 10-kilometer + 15-kilometer combined pursuit.
- At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, he won another silver medal. This was in the 4 × 10-kilometer relay.
In total, he earned six Olympic medals: three gold, two silver, and one bronze.

Ulvang also performed very well at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. These are major international competitions.
- He won two gold medals in the 4 × 10-kilometer relay. These were in 1991 and 1993.

Television and Events
Ulvang was also part of a Norwegian TV show called Gutta på tur (The Guys on Tour). He traveled with other famous people, including fellow skier Bjørn Dæhlie.
He also created and organizes the Tour de Ski. This is a multi-stage cross-country skiing event. It is similar to the Tour de France in cycling.
