The Vermilion Lakes are a group of three beautiful lakes. They are found just west of Banff, Alberta, in the amazing Canadian Rockies. These lakes are a popular spot for both nature lovers and photographers.

The three lakes sit in the Bow River valley, right inside Banff National Park. They are at the base of Mount Norquay. You can find them between the Trans-Canada Highway and the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks. One special thing about the third lake is that it has a hot spring. This means warm water flows into it naturally from underground!

A Look Back in Time: History of Vermilion Lakes

People have lived around the Vermilion Lakes for a very long time. Scientists have found proof that humans were here about 10,800 years ago!

Parks Canada expert Daryl Fedje led digs at the site. They found old campsites and tools made from a shiny, black rock called obsidian. These discoveries help us learn about the ancient people who once called this area home.
