How Warrenville Began
Warrenville was founded in 1833 by Julius Warren and his family. They moved from New York to find a new start. Julius's father, Daniel Warren, claimed land that is now McDowell Woods. Julius claimed land at what is now the Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve.
Julius Warren built the first major building in 1838. It was an inn and tavern. His family was skilled in working with timber and grain. This old inn is still standing today and was updated in 2002.
Growth and Transportation
The town grew quickly with two mills. A special road made of planks connected Warrenville to Naperville and Winfield. Julius Warren even ran a stagecoach service on this road.
The town tried to get a railroad to come through, but it didn't happen at first. However, in 1902, the Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad finally arrived. This train line served the town until the late 1950s.
