Wentworth Location is a special kind of area called a township. It is located in Coös County, New Hampshire, in the United States. In 2020, only 28 people lived there. It is part of the larger Berlin, NH-VT Micropolitan Statistical Area.

In New Hampshire, places like "locations" or "townships" are parts of a county that are not regular towns. They often have very few people, or sometimes no one at all. These areas have very limited self-government.

Wentworth Location was right in the path of the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024. This meant people there could see the sun completely covered by the moon!

A Look at Wentworth Location's Past

The land that is now Wentworth Location was first sold in 1797. It was bought by George Wentworth from Portsmouth. For many years, from 1797 to 1881, it was an "unorganized plantation." This means it was an area used for farming without a formal government.

Later, it became an official town from 1881 to 1966. After that, it changed back to being an organized township.

Exploring the Geography of Wentworth Location

Wentworth Location is right on the border with Maine. It is north of the town of Errol and east of Dixville. To its north is the Second College Grant.

The Magalloway River flows through the southeastern part of the area. New Hampshire Route 16 also runs through this corner.

Mountains and Views

Mount Dustan is the highest point in Wentworth Location. It stands at about 2,878 feet (877 meters) above sea level. This mountain looks over the small village from the west. Another mountain, Black Mountain, is about 2,750 feet (838 meters) high. It is in the more distant western part of the location. Long ago, there was even a fire tower on Mount Dustan.

The total area of Wentworth Location is about 49.9 square kilometers (19.3 square miles). Most of this is land, about 47.5 square kilometers (18.3 square miles). The rest, about 2.4 square kilometers (0.9 square miles), is water. This means about 4.79% of the area is covered by water.
